GTX 970: Gigabyte G1 Vs Standard

Thread Starter
I was looking at the Gigabyte line of GTX 970's and it looks to me like it may be a better choice for me to go for the standard card opposed to the G1. After looking at the specs and reviews, they both seem to get rather nice benchmarks with comparably low temps. The main difference would seem to be the backplate and the additional two heatpipes on the G1 edition. For the sake of being in stock and saving $20, I am strongly thinking of getting the standard card.
I know also that the clock speeds are faster with the G1, but from owners' experience, is it easy enough to OC the card while maintaining good temps?

TL;DR: Is it worth it to save the $20 and jump on the standard Gigabyte GTX 970 rather than wait for the G1.

If you were to ask this in the comparison thread they would tell you hands down the G1 is worth it.

Here is the summary of differences which you pretty much nailed

I asked the same question honestly.. The general thought was if you can wait the $20 is worth it..

Not only did I pass that one up, but I also passed the MSI Gaming up too.. I keep asking is the G1 really worth it and everyone says yes haha

Hope this helped.

the G1 gaming is much better, the backplate supports the board as it screwed to it, the fan shroud is aluminum and not plastic, the 4 heat pipe cooler allows for better temps and better overclocking temps.

edit: and the windforce logo lights up on the G1 Gaming, if that matters to you,
it can be turned off or brightness lowered with geforce experience (which I don't use)
