I'm connected to their wifi. You're not allowed to have personal routers or switches if that's what you meant.

I literally don't know how these network admin's have jobs then because they are using Public ip addresses for each device. In essence anyone that has those ip addresses for their websites you can't access. There could be 10,000 websites you can't access because of how their network is set up.

Yeah, I do not like how my college does their networking at all. I don't get why the cap on DL speed for ethernet is so low either. Maybe old infrastructure? Or... just don't want people who actually DL stuff to take all the bandwidth? idk

Fast internet is hard to come by in rural places, also upgraded switches costs tens of thousands of dollars. Just so you can enjoy more twitch.tv.

Totally not worth the cost to a school.

With the G930 unplugged do a ping again

Code:
ping 35.40.179.254 -t

You should totally contact their helpdesk, and ask them why they are using their Public IP address as their Internal Default gateway:
https://db-ip.com/35.40.179.254

If they are running the wifi themselves, how do you know where the access point is and how far you are from it?

The lucky people have the access points, or routers directly in their dorm/apartments. The people who don't have the routers in their place, have wifi extenders. That is how the network is transmitted through each building. A router is in the same building as my desktop is, so not too far away from it... Like, 15 feet. Granted there's a floor in the way.
