If my mobo supports flex mode it will run the two sticks in dual channel and the odd third stick in single channel mode, if it doesn't support flex mode then all 3 sticks will run in single channel mode, which will be a slight performance hit that I prob won't notice w/ 12 GB
I'd rather run 2 x 4 GB ram in dual channel than 3 x 4 gb ram in some odd configuration.
Unless that 290x is a super good deal or you have a specific need for that GPU, the 970 is a better buy.
Also, why an ATX case with a mATX board?

Video rendering is CPU bound. If you want the best you'll need to use and i7.
EDIT: I like the case too. Why not fill it with an ATX board too. I doubt it would cost more and will allow for better multi-gpu configuration later on by allowing for more space between the graphics cards.
Yes, Mercury Graphics Engine is OpenCL. Maxwell is faster than Hawaii and GK110 at single precision though. It also sucks a lot less power and is cheaper most of the time.
Just take a look at the compute section of the Anandtech review.

Yeah, it's making me want to sell my 780 Ti. But I'll wait on big Maxwell and the new AMD chips before that. GTX 980 pricing smells like ripoff to me.
