help me install windows 8? (ssd not recognized by mb) - Page 3

Ok been checking out the motherboard on the ASUS website
it is win 8/8.1 compatible, has drivers etc for it.
There are also quite a lot of bios updates that improve compatibility.

Check BIOS and update
and of course don't forget Agoriaz' suggestion of updating the SSD Firmware.

Ok yeh my bios version is ancient haha. But of course I can't install the latest one for some reason. I'm not exactly sure if I did it correctly but all I did was download the latest version, put it on my usb and then used ASUS EZ flash to try and install it. I click on the file but it comes up with: Security verification failed. Seriously? What now? Is there another way to flash it?

EDIT: I'm fairly certain it should be working off the usb. I'll try a different usb maybe.

UPDATE:

Ok this is what I've tried so far:
Installing the sata/ahci/raid and chipset drivers, tried this by putting them on a usb and installing thru windows installation. I could see/open the files but none of them would install because of a problem verifying the security.
Tried updating the bios by putting the file on a usb and flashing thru Asus EZ flash 2. Once again the file was there and I could click to install it but then an error regarding security showed up. I also tried formatting the usb in FAT32 as well as NTFS.
I tried my brothers ssd with windows 8 on it to see if I could boot my pc and and it comes up with "The current BIOS setting do not fully support the boot device. Click OK the enter the BIOS setup. Go to Advanced > Boot > CSM Parameters, and adjust the CSM settings to enable the boot device." Of course I did that and tried changing all the various settings but nothing worked.
Also, no matter what HDD or SSD i plug into it, none of them are recognized by windows installation, and it asks me to load a driver. I've tried 2 of each (ssd/hdd).
I also tried to turn off windows signature verification via CMD in hopes of being able to install the drivers but that didn't work either.
I really don't know what more I can try mad.gif

Thanks for all the suggestions/help btw, I really appreciate it

edit:
i've also tried different combinations of sata ports/cables and reseting the cmos.

Maybe not a faulty board, this is starting to look like a corrupt bios or worse a possible rootkit infection.
Might be an idea to get a bootable linux rescue distro and grab a rootkit scanner for it

Not fully awake at the moment hence the edit. Is it recognizing the drive now? I've had an SSD not recognized and written a blank MBR/boot sector to fix the issue but that was on a fresh install on a brand new drive.

Could you link me to a like a step by step guide or something? I really don't know what I'm doing here, those scanners you linked me to all seem to run in windows? I think it may actually be a corrupt bios, but how can I fix that if it doesn't let me flash anything else?

do you mean bootable usb for the rootkit scanner or to install windows? Because I know how to install windows off a usb, done it heaps of times but I'm not sure how to make a linux bootable usb? I've tried in the past I think and it didn't go well haha

Sorry for the stupid questions tongue.gif

The bios flashing error appears to be an ASUS message for trying to flash the wrong bios, i.e. it's not compatible with your board.
Double check the ASUS website to make sure you can go straight to the latest bios without flashing an intermediate one first, its rare but I have seen this with Gigabyte boards where you have to be on a certain Bios version before putting on the latest one.

quick edit after a search , shows this on an ASUS forum, LINK

different board revisions have different BIOS path's so you may trying to put a .CAP file on where a .ROM is expected.

A bootable usb for installing windows would work perfectly well for what I have in mind, it is in direct relation to maximus' thoughts on the MBR table.

Basically, boot from the installation media (usb or disc), press Shift+F10 to call up the Command Prompt. From here you will be able to run the bootrec commands intended for fixing a broken boot record The steps you'll need: (Click to show)
Step 4:
We need to use the Bootrec.exe tool. Click on command prompt and type in the following commands, one after the other:

bootrec /RebuildBcd
bootrec /fixMbr
bootrec /fixboot
Exit
Now go ahead and reboot your system. In some cases you may need to run some additional commands.

bootsect /nt60 SYS or bootsect /nt60 ALL
It’s wise to backup MBR or create a System Recovery Disk so that in case something like this happens you don’t have to run for the Windows Recovery Disk. To create a system recovery drive in Windows 8, follow these steps:

courtesy of: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-master-boot-record-mbr-windows

It's for stuff like this I have made a recovery disc in addition to having my Win7 installation disc at hand (read: lying around somewhere in the apartment!).
