The guide addresses issues which persist in the game and will help you either to solve those issues or minimize them as much as possible. This guide is aimed to provide you the best in-game performance and contribute to your overall experience.

Stuttering

Stuttering is one of the main major issues in Far Cry 4. Unfortunately it cant be fixed permanently on all PC configurations but it can be decreased. One way to decrease stuttering is to find the GamerProfile.xml file which is in your documents and edit the line saying GPUMaxBufferedFrames="0", replace the 0 with a 1. Eventually the line should look like this GPUMaxBufferedFrames="1". When enabling this option by editing the xml file you will enable GPU Max Buffered Frames which is an option which tells your GPU to render frames in advance (pre render).

Another way to decrease stuttering is by editing another line which is also located in the xml file. By enabling this line you will decrease the amount and the frequency of stuttering but simultaneously you will also reduce the textures quality and their rendering distance. Locate the line DisableLoadingMip0="0" and replace the 0 with a 1. The line should now look like this DisableLoadingMip0="1".

The most effective way to reduce the stuttering is by enabling vertical synchronisation with RadeonPRO. Be advised that this is only possible if you are using an AMD (Ati Radeon) GPU. As the v-sync option in the game is a complete mess it is significantly better to enable v-sync through RadeonPRO. This program can be downloaded for free on the official site and as already mentioned it supports only AMD GPUs. Before proceeding make sure that v-sync in the game is off and then open up RadeonPRO. Add a new profile and select Far Cry 4's executable. Then go to Tweaks and set VSync control to Always on. Also enable Triple-Buffering and set the refresh rate according to the one of your monitor. With vertical sync all the rendered frames are synchronised according to the refresh rate of the monitor, therefore there is no screen tearing. It also decrease stuttering and makes the game more smooth. The only downside is that it is demanding and it may (not necessarily) create input lag.

Sluggish and Accelerated Mouse Controls

This is another major issue persisting in Far Cry 4 and once again it cant be eliminated but it can be tweaked to provide a significantly better experience. First and foremost it is advised to close the drivers configurations which are over-ridden or are running in the background. For example if you have a Razer mouse, close the application running in the background. This way the manufacturers configured drivers will not interfere with the game.

To disable the most mouse smoothing and acceleration you will have to edit the GamerProfile.xml file found in your documents. Find the following lines and disable them all by setting them to 0. MouseAcceleration="1" MouseAccelerationOn="1" UseMouseSmooth="1" Smoothness="1" Smoothness_Ironsight="1" HelpCrosshair="1"
In the end those lines should look like this MouseAcceleration="0" MouseAccelerationOn="0" UseMouseSmooth="0" Smoothness="0" Smoothness_Ironsight="0" HelpCrosshair="0"
After saving the file the most smoothing and acceleration will be gone and will provide a more raw mouse input.

Multi Threading

It has been noticed that the #3 core in most CPUs would have the most activity while the rest of cores would sit almost idle therefore creating bottlenecking issues. In order to fix that disable all persisting in-game overlays would that be a Steam or Ubisoft overlay.

Another way to fix the bottlenecking of the #3 core is to go to the Task Manager, find Far Cry 4 in the tasks list, right click on it and go to details. While in the detailed list press once again the right mouse button on Far Cry 4 and select set affinity, then uncheck CPU 2 (Core #3) and apply. This way the load distribution will be scattered throughout all the other remaining cores equally. This may help with stuttering and performance issues however it is not guaranteed to have benefits.

This guide is a work in progress.

I'm really hoping this game is well optimized for PC, and I hope us PC folk get some serious love with textures, lighting etc.

I enjoyed FC3, but man it was a bit rough around launch time.

Unfortunately the game will look equally good on all modern platforms including PC. The PS4 version will look like the PC version maxed out in terms of graphic settings.

Far Cry 4 is expected to be one of the best-looking video games ever made, judging by the trailers that Ubisoft published earlier this month. What is somewhat surprising is that according to a representative of the game developer, the game will look equally good on all modern platforms, including the PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
Alex Hutchinson, the creative director of Ubisoft Montreal, said in an interview with Major Nelson, that the ultra-high graphics setting of the Far Cry 4 on the PC will look exactly the same as the game will look on the new-generation consoles.
"Because we develop [Far Cry] on the PC, you've never really seen on console the ultra-high PC version before," said Mr. Hutchinson, reports Softpedia. "So even out of the box, even day one, we just stuck the code on the new consoles and we were able to dial it all the way up. So as a console player you're already getting by far the best version we can ship."

Can't wait for this game to release.

It'll be interesting to see the visual improvements over fc3. I thought fc3 was quite stunning, especially the lighting and reflection effects. Some things were missing like realistic shadows...
Wonder what the storyline will be...

Hey all, I know this is a PC thread, is everyone getting this for PC? I really want to get a nextgen console just for this game.
I heard the horror stories with Uplay & that is the only reason why I did not preorder FC4 for PC yet.
Is Uplay really that bad? Any advice or input is appreciated.

Thanks & cant wait for this game!

Personally I never experienced any issues with UPlay and I dont understand why people blame it so much, it is nowhere as bad as people claim it to be. UPlay is decent. Getting a nextgen console for this game doesnt make much sense. Playing first-person shooters using a controller can be pretty much considered a crime. I am getting the PC version that is for sure, I would advise you doing the same. The PC version is going to be superior to the console version mainly due to features such as an unlocked framerate, scalable res, aa etc.

I've never personally had any uplay issues. But I've never had origin issues either, lol.

Nice thread. I was looking for something like this.

Can't wait to put my hands on this game. It look a lot of fun. Maybe a bit close to FC3 but I really enjoyed it. I will probably enjoy 4 a lot.

Got the Kyrat Edition on preorder at the price of Limited Edition due to website mistake

Nice! Add me on steam (99cybertox99) I would gladly play Co-op with you. I am getting the Golden edition. Also, what is your time zone?

First time I played through Far Cry 3 was using a single 7950, I was able to run the game at medium to high settings (1920x1080). I had absolutely no troubles running the game. The stuttering was an issue though but that can be partially fixed.

Its Ubisoft. I'm sure it will be fun, but past history points towards a broken ass game at release. Broken saves, broken SLI, CTD, all that typical ubisfot nonsense...

Did you see the sys requirements for the new Asscreed? Yeah.... FC4 will be just as bad.

Sigh - I know....I guess sometimes I am just hopelessly optimistic.

No, it wont be as bad. It uses the same engine as Far Cry 3 used, Far Cry 3 didnt have high system requirements.

Its using a heavily evolved Dunia engine, which is a cryengine branch and far cry 3 cut system req by baiting then switching the product. Show one thing and then sell another. Ubi also continues to Spend less and less on internal QA which means more of it happens post release. This all adds up to them releasing shoddy products. I'm not worried about system requirements as we already know they spend less and less time optimizing for PC ("they will just buy new hardware!")

I'm sure it will be good fun, but anyone that expects them to not Watch Dogs it is fooling them selves. Watch Dogs is just their most egregious example of slapping the PC community in the face, its just another example of something they started doing before far cry 3.

Your memory of Far Cry 3 release seems rose tinted. It was a HOT HOT mess. It took them almost 3 months to iron out most of the big, game breaking bugs.

I would, but since I'm getting the boxed version of the game, that I can only activate on Uplay, I won't be able to use Steam for FC4.
I would gladly add you on UPlay tough. Same user ID?

Anyway, I would expect co-op plays or friends list to be managed by Uplay since it will probably be mandatory.

Time Zone : -5 Eastern (New-York, Montreal, Etc...)

I think even the Steam versions launch UPlay - there's no way around it.

Due to the fact that they are using the same engine and heavily base the game on its predecessor, they will be able to avoid the mistakes that they have made with Far Cry 3. They are familiar with the game engine now and hopefully due to that will be able to offer a better experience.

That is right, however Steam still runs in the background so you can still use it to communicate. To play Co-op however we will need to set it up via UPLAY but that is not a problem.
