Off topic I know, but have you played Crysis 3? I thought the first one was pretty good pre-aliens and thought 2 sucked ass (never came close to beating it) but found that 3 was, quite to my amazement, damn good. Especially the ending and story closing...one of the best endings that I've seen in a game in a good while. Granted I just played it a couple months ago but yeah, it was a good game with a good story and ending over all.

I can say that I was certainly shocked once I actually sat down and played through it. I was one that never gave it a chance because of how horrible 2 was. Glad I eventually did though!

290x (current AMD flagship) as the recommended should be the one that's getting you to raise an eyebrow.

Want to bet I can run it on my downlocked A10-5700 rock bottom at 720p?

According to the official system requirements: Assassin's Creed: Unity's PC system requirements revealed

I can't really see how people are getting so worked up about one system requirement, the 680 and the 7970, sure they're a little high but I'm sure lower end GPUs would be able to run it fine too, like the 7850 or 7870, when the game is released we'll soon find out.
Quote:
64-bit operating system

Required

Supported OS

Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1 (64bit versions only)

Processor

Minimum:

Intel Core i5-2500K @ 3.3 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or AMD Phenom II x4 940 @ 3.0 GHz

Recommended:

Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or better

RAM

Minimum: 6 GB

Recommended: 8GB

Video Card

Minimum:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 (2 GB VRAM)

Recommended:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 or AMD Radeon R9 290X (3 GB VRAM)

The processor requirements are incredibly low starting with the Phenom II x4 940 @3.0GHz, and then you have the higher-end AMD FX 8350 @4.0GHz in the recommended alongside the i7 3770 @3.4GHz, I would think an i5 would do well too.

Is it that big a deal? besides the Video Card requirements which are likely higher than they need to be? I think a 7850 or a 7870 would do perfectly fine.

Why not? Consoles run amd hardware as same what we call low end pc specs do they not?

You are making an assumption while most are basing their opinions on the facts presented. If the minimum is to be believed then no a 7850 will not run it perfectly fine.

Programming for the same hardware is not the same as programming for 3 different types of hardware. They need to optimize the game for Nvidia, AMD (graphics and cpu) and Intel hardware as well which is hard, according to some posts i saw on other forums. So you can't basically compare PC's to Consoles in that matter

Fair enough.

i5/680 minimum required may be considered a mid range system to OCN...but to the real world, that is still a pretty freakin high end setup to pretty much everyone.

most people I know that PC game do it on their family dells and HPs...they'll usually add like a gtx 640 level card or lower and be happy.
I can count on one hand the number of people who have anything higher than a 650 level card....and these aren't poor kids either, their people in their 20s/30s who just don't see the need to spend the money on the higher cards/CPUs to have fun.

so, UBI pulling something like this is alienating a lot of people...sure, I bet it can run on specs way lower with ZERO problems, but the fact that there is a picture being painted to unknowledgeable people is the worry.
if it doesn't scale to lower specs.....ubi, pls, pls ubi.

The fact that the minimum pc specs is more powerful than what is in consoles should tell you beyond doubt that it is a bad optimization/port.
