NVIDIA DSR

I'm confused as to how to use this properly. I have a GTX 670, and with the latest version of drivers, my card is supported.

1.) NVIDIA Control Panel.
2.) Enable DSR by checking one of the tick boxes ( 1.20 - 1.50 - 1.78 - 2.00 - 2.25 - 3.00 - 4.00 )
3.) Select smoothing amount ( 0 - 100 % )
4.) Apply settings.
5.) Open game and enjoy!!

Thing is, I don't notice a difference in quality or a decrease in frame rate; is there a list of supported games, or does it apply to every game?
Also I'm able to tick all of the options in step two; does that mean all of them are applied?

I think you have to choose one of the dsr resolutions in game to see a difference.

Edit fashric beat me to it.

Yeah I know the feeling. I have been fighting with 344.48 drivers not installing. I finally got it to install though......After 2 days, lol, probably due to lack of sleep.

If you're using nvidia inspector to supersample, probably not because that's what DSR is doing and it could potentially conflict.

If you want to use nvidia inspector to do other things while your drivers handle DSR, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Let's turn this into a feedback thread for DSR.

I have used DSR on Rome II: Total War and I must say I am not impressed at all.

What happens is, the game gets blurred instead of clearer or more defined. Tried four different resolutions so far. Same results.

I don't get what is the point of DSR.

DSR is kind of like MSAA. It's not going to make things clearer (you can't without increasing pixels) but it is going to significantly reduce the effects of aliasing.

As far as my feedback, on games that have full UI scaling the effect is pretty impressive. I tried it out after having to send back my Swift due to a defect. Going back to 1080p after nearly a month using the Swift was rather painful. One game I played only had a 120% UI scaling, and that made it unplayable with things so small. But if you get the scaling right, then it does look better to my eye. I haven't done a detailed comparison between it and the various levels of normal MSAA, but for games without detailed AA settings it made a dramatic improvement.

don't forget about the slider that's defaulted to 33% for either sharpness or blurriness.

It gets blurred because you left it at 33% blur.
Overall "Accepted" setting is 21-25%.

I tried the following settings:

DSR Smoothness: 100%
DSR Smoothness: 0%
DSR Smoothness: 90%
DSR Smoothness: 80%
DSR Smoothness: 70%
DSR Smoothness: 60%
DSR Smoothness: 40%
DSR Smoothness: 30%
DSR Smoothness: 20%
DSR Smoothness: 10%

Result: Blurred for all diff settings.

Tried 1.20, 1.50, 1.78 & 2.00 Resolution.

I tried out DSR today and it's not that great honestly. Some games even had their moose pointers/menus out of line. Only a few games I would use DSR on.

I would honestly just use regular AA. I found it better looking on games like Tomb Raider, and Splinter Cell BL. When I play those games I'll use DSR. And when the hell is MFAA coming out ;/

I tested this out on bf4, the evil within, borderlands: the pre sequel, beyond earth, far cry3 and rift.

The only difference I could see was some unwelcome bluring affects. I played around with all the settings in the ncp and nothing is superior to ole msaa, supersampling or even downsampling.

Its just another useless "feature" for nvidea to put on the box.

Try x2.25 or x4 @ 22%

if you have the power to do it at least 1.78x your res and the game your playing supports nvidia aa through the driver try enhancing it with 32x csaa on swtor doing this im able to max the slider out to 100% with almost no blur and almost no aliasing in that game it also fix's that games shader aliasing for the most part

I don't think I'll keep using DSR for when I play bf4 or fc3. Unfortunately it removes my custom refresh rate of 75hz and backs it down to 60... And there's a big difference... Too bad it does that... Maybe in a newer update it'll allow for custom refresh rates. It is nice in war thunder though. But overall doesn't really make that much more of a "wow" factor. I do get >3gb vram usage in bf4 too... Thats fun

you have to set your desktop resolution to the same res you use in game.
e.g. set your desktop res to about 2x 1080p then overclock your display to 75hz and afterwrds start your game.

DSR stops working after a while. It used to set my 1080p desktop to whatever resolution I select, like 4K. Then I could even play games in Borderless Windowed Mode and use 4K. Now for some reason no matter what resolution I select, it even apply and just jump back to 1080p. I tried messing with scaling options by selecting either GPU or Desktop for scaling methods, but that didn't work. I also tried disabling DSR by unticking all the DSR resolutions, pressing APPLY, and then re-selecting them, but DSR still wouldn't work for either games or my desktop... When I press APPLY, it just tells me that I need to disable DSR if I want to use Custom Resolution, which makes no sense to me because DSR is what adds custom resolution!!! What do I do now? How do I make DSR come back???

Another issue I came across is that back when DSR was working, in some games select 4K resolution on my 1080p screen resulted in super-stretched screen, where I would only see the upper left quadrant of the screen. I don't remember how I used to fix that, but I think I had to set my desktop resolution to 4K first and then launch the game. But again, DSR stopped working for me... I don't get it. It always does it. At first I install the drivers and it works great, but then a couple restarts and gaming sessions later it just stops applying those DSR resolution. WTH? Why is it happening and how do I fix it???

I will have to say that I personally love the DSR feature. Tried it last night on BF4, Crysis 3 and Far Cry 4 and man is it amazing...!

Battlefiled let me choose 4k res with settings from 60hz-120hz. I almost didn't believe it until I played the game and it was as obvious as going from your first 60hz monitor to anything higher for the first time:D. The game was as smooth as glass with everything on and maxed out except for any AA as that was a huge performance hit and not necessary TBO. I could not be happier with how it plays and I'll never play BF4 with anything less than just these settings.

I attempted to see if there were settings for Crysis 3 and far cry, but they just allow you to select the resolution and that is it. Those are the only games that I have had a chance to play with DSR on, but today is another day......
