Asus gtx 780 ti dcii oc hotwire hardmod etc questions

Hi everybody, I have been searching for answers across multiple forums for the past few weeks and have yet to find anything specific to this question. I am running four way SLi with these gtx 780 ti's and all seems good at stock settings albeit a bit disappointing when it comes to media encoding but ok overall.. I want to give the vga hotwire on the rampage iv extreme a shot to get some extra voltage. I have no plans at the moment for sub-ambient so I have no need to go to 1.4V or higher.

The write-ups for the 770 and 780 dcii are pretty straight forward however I am a bit confused at to running four cards through the two hotwire mobo headers. I see others have done this but have no explanation of if they wired cards one and two to header one and cards three and four to header two, if it was one and three to header one and two and four to header two or if it even matters.

I ask this as vga slots one and three are used with two cards to give x16/x16 but the slot for card 2 in SLi becomes slot 3 in 3-way and 4-way SLi.

I do not see any reference to running more than two cards other than in Shammy's guide http://downloads.hwbot.org/downloads/PDF/R4E_shamino_guide.pdf where he shows his system running triple slot gpus in 3-way SLi on page 28 and shows his gpu lane simulator fully populated with nvidia cards on page 36.

I will ask in this thread as well http://kingpincooling.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2346&page=4 but I really want to make it work through the motherboard and not have a knob or trimmer on the pot to turn for making these adjustments.

I have read some posts where people were disappointed with the vga hotwire feature of the RIVE mobo and decided to do the full hard mod with variable resistor or even fixed resistors afterwards but due to cleanliness I want to give the ASUS path a shot first.

So to sum up the post, I am asking if running hotwire with a 4-way SLi setup I should wire cards 1 and 2 to vga 1 on the mobo or cards 1 and 3 to vga 1.

I have only done the vga hotwire on the rive black edition which was awesome. I think it's much better now that it's moved to the OC Panel. The best part is that the oc panel works with just sata power and you don't need a certain mobo. You might be able to find one cheap. If I was going to use 4 cards I would go with the variable resistor route. You can use the hotwire holes for the vr mods and then you can set each cards voltage and it will stay there making your life a lot easier.

Also I don't think vga hotwire cares which card is which. vga 1 and vga 2 will do the same thing to any card in any of the pcie slots. At least now with the oc panel. I can take the card in my first slot and hook it to the vga 2 section and it works fine. should be same for you.

Thank you for the reply. I may go the variable resistor route if Hotwire doesn't work. I might also try getting an oc panel for two of the cards and using the mobo for the other two just to see how it works. As it stands, I am going to wire cards 1 and 2 together for the first hotwire header and cards 3 and 4 for Hotwire header 2. I have two of the four wired up and maybe I will get to the other two tonight.

I've got to swing by the electronics shop before I can proceed to get more plastic header clip thingies.

So if I follow what you are telling me it appears that I can via Hotwire with just the OC panel not hooked to the motherboard?

Sorry for the old bump but I have two RVE motherboards and these four 780tis are on one of them, the other has four reference 980tis so I don't think I will need the OCPanel that came with the second board.

With two OC panels I should be able to vga Hotwire all four cards?

Edit: Edit: I found another write up by Shamino http://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/hwbotdownloads/downloads/text_storage/m6eShammyGuide.pdf, it is for a different ROG motherboard but it is still Haswell and has some pretty good explanations for things I have not fully understood.

Anyhow, if you have DC2 or Matrix GPU's then the Hotwire function can be controlled with two OC Panels, if doing a more limited Hotwire with just core voltage then the four headers on the top left of the panel just above the Hotwire headers can be used for four cards on just the one OC Panel.
