PC Upgrade - worth it to do now or should I wait?!

Hello everyone!
I'm sort of a long time lurker on these forums but this is the first time I started a thread.
First of all my current spec:
AMD Phenom 2 945@3Ghz
AMD radeon 5770(AMD fanoy? not really, just had a good price)
4GB DDRAM3
MB 890GPA-UD3H
CM690 2 case(I still think it's one of the best cases out there)
Corsair HX 650W modular PSU.

Since most games have been designed to run on the last gen consoles this PC has done a good job of running everything relevant to my interest for the past 4 years.
Now we have new consoles and a whole array of poorly optimized crap with it (*cough Evil Within *cough).
Obviously there are some exceptions (Shadow of Mordor running on medium on 1080p with ~40fps on this old thing) but one must be prepared for everything.

My question is: Should I upgrade now or wait for another 6 months to see just what requirements the newer games will need?! What would you do?

If the answer is upgrade there is a nice little package I'm itchy to pick up (it's CPU+MB+GPU combo at a decent price in my country):
Asus z97 ranger; i5 4690K and a Asus 760GTX 2GB card.
I am also considering a 970GTX + i7 combo but that would be a tad more expensive and I'm not really sure if I should bother (I have a 60inch 1080p plasma that I game on and I'll probably keep that for a long time, so no 1440p/4K for me).

So, what do you think? Feel free to correct my English as well, I am not a native speaker

Cheers!

I would upgrade but you do not need no 970 yet. The 700 series are still great and if your only on a 1080p screen its going to be just perfect. The 760 will run a 1080p screen just as good and will stay above 60 fps and a 970 wouldn't even matter as it will be above 60fps but does that really matter? It doesn't matter as your Tv is prolly playing back 60Hz and if people didn't know, but Tv shows only record at 23.976FPS. I would recommend the GTX 760 and i5 Combo. No need for a 900 series GPU yet unless your running higher resolution like 4K.

To Postal:

The thing is the 970 is not in any sort of deal right now (or at least where I live) and it would be literally twice as expensive than the 760 bundle for me.
Still worth it? I would also consider changing my GPU after 2 years if it starts to slow down.
If I buy a 970 though I would keep it for at least 4 years just because of it's price point.

To USMCRD:

The plasma will show full 60fps in games trust me

It's actually smoother than my 1080p 60Hz pc monitor because plasmas have very good response time. They do have screen retention though (the first Dark Souls with it's horrible UI - I have to let the TV running for like 10 min after playing 3 hours so the damn healthbar would vanish). Than again I'm not crazy witht he framerate, I just want it to stay above 30 at all times.

Ya thats how I am with frame rate. The 760 will be perfect and it will last you for at least 3 years before you even need to consider an upgrade. The 900 series are nice and are good bragging rights but theres no point as a GTX 700 series can do the job and sustain 60 fps in game at 1080p no problem. Now if you went to higher resolution I would suggest a higher end card but your only at 1080p so its going to be perfect for you to get the 760. I had a GTX 660 and it ran games great at 1080p for example I ran Planetside 2 at 80 fps and in big battles of 96+ players it dropped to only 40 fps and thats great. Thats an intensive game too so from my stand point the GTX 760 is suppose to be better then the GTX 660 so thats why I would recommend the GTX 760 is because I had a GTX 660 and I never had problems with it since I had it for 2 years.

But hey, at the end of the day. You can decide to get the GTX 760 or the 970. Your money, Your just asking for peoples advice here and my advice is grab the GTX 760 bundle combo and you will have the gaming rig for at least 3 years before you need to upgrade it to anything else. GTX 970 is way over kill for just a 1080p screen. If you ran a 2k or a 4k I would be suggesting a 980 or 780 for that but your at 1080p and the GTX 760 will be plenty to suit your needs as a gamer.

Ouch, here in the States you can get a 970 for just a hair more than a 760. I considered your position being what it was when I recommended it, was just hoping it wasn't that bad.

Having said that, your original idea would still provide a meaningful upgrade, especially since the 970 isn't really an option due to availability issues.

First of all thanks for all the feedback guys

It seems the 760 is the way to go.

As for why the price of the 970 is so big?! well what they usually do here is add something like 25% on new products even if it doesn't make sense (like you could buy an older stronger card for less and stupidly enough all stores do the same... /facepalm).
But if nobody buys that particular hardware they will drop the price like a rock after a few months and pretend it's a great deal that they are offering (there is a -30% deal for a bloody saphire 290 even though it costs exactly as it should).
With the combo the 760 , the MB and the i5 are at a decent price. Money itself isn't that much of an issue since I make a decent wage but I'd rather spent it wisely... and maybe buy a porsche someday

)

I do have a question though: one of the combo versions includes a i7 4790k instead of the i5 4690k. It's about 115 $ more. Do you think it's worth it? Both the new consoles have 8 cores in them (amd jaguar that doesn't really seem too strong really...) so do you think there might be some benefit down the line in going with the i7 (8 threads?) instead of the i5? (then again that means more time to optimize for PC... and we all know how that goes...)
I should mention that this is strictly a game machine for me (I don't do any sort of work/project on it).

Cheers!

Ya its like in australia likes to over price there Adobe products and people torrent it. lol Also i5's are great for gamers as there great Overclockers and also games don't utilize the i7. If you render and make videos go with the i7. Any other questions I will be more then happy to help you out and point you in the right direction buddy. You have a great day and if not to much trouble can give me a REP+.Thanks Again
