On websites that the text is wayy too small for some reason all you have to do is ctrl+Scroll up/down to zoom and it's no different except being a good deal sharper..

It was by far one of my biggest concerns going to 4k due to people posting this 'issue' all over the place but I'm more then used to and happy with it now using zero scaling in windows.

seating distance vs quality of eye sight vs general text size preference.

smile.gif No problem, and it's just native 3840x2160 (4k) on my Acer B326HK (16:9 native aspect).

We should find out at CES I'd imagine. I'm super excited by this display but am still trying to decide if I should ditch my dual 27" 1440p IPS monitors in favor of it or just keep what I got? Obviously a 40" 4k VA panel would look better for video and in gaming but I have gotten used to having dual monitors. Dunno, will likely buy this either way if they surprise me with a price like $600 but if its more than $800 I might have to hold out for a while...

Coming from 3x23" in portrait, this 4k phillips is roughly the same size, sans bezel, and has 33% higher pixel density and overall resolution. Its either one of these or a TV as a monitor, which has oodles of undesirable caveats with what is currently available.

Eyefinity has been fun, but I am ready to be back on a single panel. Too much of a headache far too often.

I want this yesterday.

It is a ppi statement. At 40'' you will have approx the same ppi as 23'' 1080p meaning optimal viewing distance of ~80..90 cm which is ergonomical. Sure, you can use 28'' 4k but its optimal viewing distance is only ~60 cm. Anything closer than approx your arms length causes increasing amounts (depending on how close it is to your eyes) of eye strain over extended use. I do have also 28'' 4k and its perfectly usable - just given an option I would prefer 4k at 36..40'' size and about 30 cm further on my desk.

I also have a setup with 3x ipad 3 screens hacked togehter which I used for a while at approx 30..40cm distance (20'' ~4600x2000 pixels, 265 ppi) and my experience agrees fully with the studies showing that objects so close to ones eyes are straining. On longer working days if I pulled more than about 8h sometimes my left eye started seeing black spots at the end of a day.

That is the current setup. I'm using the ipad ones for pdf documents now which scale pretty well (~175% is ok) for being used at ~60 cm.

exactly. thanks for posting.

there is a limit to the distance most people sit VS resolution. The beauty of 4k is that you can relax in your chair, have a huge screen with lots of real estate and if you want to push your chair back and relax with a game + controller the screen is TV sized yet will look even crisper i.e retina crisp. I know some have said why 40" when there are 22" - 28" 4k but im on the other side of the fence, why not go large keep a 96 - 100dpi but have an epic large screen in front of you at a distance where your eyes natural gate focuses that bit further away .. i.e 80 - 90cm.

*edit
on a side note my eye sight isnt too bad my current 25" 1080p is 60cm away but i could place a larger monitor 1 meter away from my screen im even considering a 47 - 48" 4k screen should a suitable one come out, it might not be 1440p PPI but then again it will still be further away than my current 25" and it will still be higher than the PPI i have now.. even at 48" !

http://tools.rodrigopolo.com/display_calc/

^ Linkage. If you sit 31" away from a 40" 4k screen you have "effectively" retina DPI due to the eye to screen distance, even a bit less on a larger screen is going to mean comfortable viewing without pixels and the same PPI as a 24" 1080p on a massive 50" on a large desk.

4k is a lot of pixels, if 32" - 40" is the safe normal then what size is 8k normal at smile.gif

I've had this monitor for over a week now and I truly like it. Only thing I don't like about it is the glossy plastic bezel, that cheap plastic type that is a dust and fingerprint magnet and scratches super easy. Aside from that it's really a beautiful screen and the colors are nice especially after calibration (using Spyder3Pro). The non-adjustable stand is the perfect height for me, although I had to stack 2 quarters under each side of the back of the stand to tilt the monitor more towards me; it was kinda leaning back out of the box, but for all I know it's my desk that's titled away from me.
