X - Unboxing: Rad, Pump, SSD and Memory.

Time for a holiday update and quite appropriate that I have been unboxing most of the sponsored parts for Chocolate Box. Also a change of scenery now I am back at home for the Christmas break.

First up is the chunky little XSPC AX120 to be removed from it's mighty fine packaging.

I also recieved a little radiator gasket which is a nice touch but i'm not sure I can afford to lose 2mm of length!

Next was this Laing DDC-1T Plus, appropriately overkill for one radiator and one bock biggrin.gif

I was really taken back by this little HyperX 3K SSD the packaging and build quality is phenomenal.

A little curveball arose with the memory when the HyperX turned up naked, well I think it's HyperX!

The Parvum boys kindly sent along some XSPC block adapters, although I won't be water cooling the memory these really look the part in the absence of spreaders <3 clean

So that's my array of Christmas presents! Exactly what I needed for Chocolate Box and they are all perfectly inkeeping with the build so far. I can't wait to get the case back and find out if they all fit!

I have that same radiator/pump setup in my PC and it keeps the i5 + R9 270 nice and cool (idles around 30 - 32C). Looking forward to seeing this job complete.

That would of been cool, I guess I may have gone that route if I had the option but I did fancy a switch that was very different to the reds in my other board. Clicky was a must and the greens were sat waiting for me, they certainly feel different.

Once you do something it seems like loads of people are doing it, there definitely aren't many brown builds but I have noticed a few since I started. I've been very surprised there aren't many haters, even people who usually avoid brown have expressed they like it. Must admit when I started it I wasn't sure myself it was right but when I saw the case it really looked quite natural.

Good to know, hopefully it can handle the 290X with ease then, as long as it's quieter than stock that's all i'm aiming for. Damn that leafblower is loud.

I ended up barely even gaming because how loud it was, those blowers are insane. running nice and quiet now ^^

good thing you have those fairly beefy ippc's tho, you'll need them under load.

My pump was pretty loud until I undervolted it to 7V and now it purrs like a really quiet kitten. Mine is in an HTPC so I needed to keep the noise level as low as possible. It starts right up every time and flows plenty fast.

Was that a DDC-3T or 1T?

1T, it's the same exact one you have and I'm using an XSPC pump top.

Mine's the same, needs to spin ~1500rpm to be quiet. Not sure how well the pcb will handle undervolting in the long run, but we'll see. At least i have a heatsink on it.
