BTW, doyll.....here's a little gem culled from the comments on the review of the Zero. The Zero that is passive.....with no moving components.....that could potentially fail.....

I know you appreciate these things as much as me.

@doyll You have been ranting about air temps going into the cooler but I have never read where you suggest how it is done.

Now I have this industrial air conditioning thermometer that is probably 50 years old. I use it to check car air conditioning and stuff. Anyhoo, I stuck it in my case and took some pics. Would this be adequate?

[ Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Fair qustion.I assumed it was rather obviou so hadn't explained in detail.

We want the temperature of air entering cooler, so obviously in the airflow in front of cooler.
I usually put it about 3 inches in front of cooler intake about 2/3rds of the way above RAM kinda like these images.

Here is one of the sensors I made from a simple indoor/outdoor thermometer with wired outdoor sensor.

Rant:
What it the intake temp of that Xmas tree? biggrin.gif

The tree? It is a Philips usb Christmas tree that my wife picked up a couple of years ago at Target or somewhere. There are lots of them out there.

The intake is 74F or 23.333C.

I typed this out the other day but didn't get around to posting it. Hey Presto logged in tonight and it was still here:

I have just won this exact one featured here from fleabay:

http://www.play3r.net/reviews/cooling/thermalrigh-macho-rev-b-cpu-cooler-review/

I was originally looking at a cryorig r1 but finances are an issue at the moment and I am unable to afford that tier of performance.

Having looked at the above review I am :rolleyes:obviously rolleyes.gif looking forward to performance that will be within 5c of my swiftech setup now and was planning on doing a mini review to highlight how good it is and doing a comparison with my swiftech kit when it arrives and posting it up.

Not wishing to ruffle the feathers of those contributors to this thread who are a: more knowledgeable than myself and b: who seem to review these things for a living and are more knowlegable than myself. (not mentioning any names). I have a couple of questions.

I can't control the room temp accurately so will have to work out the result as a delta temp??

The best way of doing that will be to measure the air temp going into the rad/heatsink from a distance of a few inches then taking it away from what coretemp reports?

I only have access to a kitchen thermometer but that shouldn't matter as the other factors are in place and we will be looking at the delta temp??

Any advice gratefully received. thumb.gif
