Earlier this week, some customers began using fake listings on Amazon.com to purchase a $400 PlayStation 4 for less than $100 with the help of Walmart's new price-matching policy.
Yesterday, Walmart announced they were changing their policy to protect the company from fraud.
"We launched online price matching because it's the right thing for our customers," according to a statement from the company. "It's making a meaningful difference for people who want to feel confident they're getting the best price, and we're committed to matching online prices going forward.
How did I not hear about this earlier and also why in the world would a Walmart employee or manager sell a PS4 for $90 today regardless of price-matching?
What is funny to me is Walmart.com is on their list. I've run into this before in which the price on their website was cheaper than in the store and they didn't want to give me the lower price. I basically said ok I'll order online for store pick-up (which would have required that clerk to bring the item to the front) at which time they agreed to give me their own online price.
You'd think they'd automatically have their price match the lower online price without requesting it.
Honestly it's not that bad for Walmart, they've got alot of 'free' press covering their new price matching system. It probably cost them a couple grand but it's worth it for the press they got from it.
A few months after Diablo 3 was released, Toys 'R Us was selling off all their games, and had D3 marked down to $10. I was able to get Walmart to price-match it. Their policy rocks.
I kind of feel bad, since they lost money on that sale. I kind of DON'T feel bad, because they make way more profit off of me than that every single month anyway, and it was following their policy.

Yea Best Buy did that at least a year ago when my roommate wanted to price match an item on Amazon and the guy told him it had to be sold BY Amazon, and even went online to verify it was sold by Amazon. I don't feel sorry for Walmart. If you were literally THAT STUPID to not include that in the terms before this happened, then it's no surprise someone scammed you out of a PS4. Stupid people are stupid.

Yeah, I've enjoyed Best Buy's price match policy. I don't mind driving and paying tax to have that instant gratification. Plus, the Best Buy around me kinda knows me now, so they kinda know to avoid me with all their BS sales claims

Don't you love that? Walking into a Best Buy and knowing you know more about the product they're trying to sell than they do. It's hilarious. I once had a clerk drive people away from me (I was standing by the 360 display playing NFS: The Run...terrible game) and he had no clue what Xbox LIVE is. Idiot.

Yeah. At the same time I feel for the ones that are kinda pushed into it, and you can tell they're just trying to do their job. I've helped a couple employees (read: co-op) make a few sales by simply just being honest and giving them real benefits, rather than just hear them spew specs that mean nothing to the average consumer.
Makes me wonder why Best Buy wont hire me after interviews.... It's not availability, and my sales skills have been proven. I taught the hiring manager a few things, and he seemed to really like me. (nohomo)

I had the same trouble. I made sure I humbled myself, and didn't act to 'uppity' about my knowledge when going into it, and just no dice. I think they gave me some excuse along the lines of 'overqualified'. Lol. Ironically, I still had 6 months left until I had my Bachelor's.

Because they know that people who know their stuff will be leaving the job fairly soon. Same reason why when I do interviews, I have to pretend that I have no idea what a PHD is, let alone any pretensions of going off to be getting one.
I might just try that. A variation, I mean. "I know some stuff about electronics, I want to work around it so I can learn more, and I'm good at selling stuff."

I've actually applied to Best Buy as a summer job before I went back to school. I'm beyond over qualified considering i'm a Computer Science major lmao.

Because it doesn't matter if its 90$ or 10$.
If someone is following the policy by the book, and as long as the listing is there, by law, they have to follow it and sell him the console. Fishy or not, it doesn't matter.
If they don't, they are entering a world of hurt with law suites and class act suits if the court finds those listing legit regardless if fishy prices. They would not want to enter that door, as long as they didn't lose too much money on it and were able to plug that hole fast enough.
