I have right now a HD-5850, tried to run far cry 4 on medium and got 22 FPS. When I looked online I never knew my card became so old. I have a spare 6950 but one of the fan blades broke so I traded it with my other pc, but looking at the benchmark there isn't much difference between the 2.
I want to try and jump to nvidia side and try it out. I haven't had one since the old days of 8800GT and man that card was a beast. What deals you guys think I should keep on eye on in the for sale section for used cards that will let me play modern games on high with 60fps. I don't want to spend too much, maybe 200 bucks tops.
I just wanted to try nvidia because I keep hearing about the bad driver support from amd. However I have not been following anything tech related since I have been super busy with school and the lack of funds.
I see 290x and 290 is there a big difference.
I bought a brand new 290 on ebay for $250 with 2.5 years warranty left on it.
maxing out everything at 1080p i've thrown at it.(Dragon Age: Inquisition, Thief, Batman Arkham games, Skyrim with HD pack)
prices have come down so you can actually skip ebay and get it from newegg for that price.
I haven't had any driver issues.

amd drivers have been decent for the last year a used 290 or 7970 can be snagged for great prices you can find a 7970s for under 150 on ebay if you look around.
cooling on the reference models SUCK so stay away unless you're going to custom cool them yourself or don't mind the yet engine noise.
I got a reference because I wanted a waterblock
I like my little 650ti. Runs cool and plays almost everything I throw at it on full. I don't play FPS games though so I couldn't say how well it is in a crowd. But for $100 it was a nice card for my gaming style.
Lol. I wonder when was the last time you can get a bang for buck. Well, without getting screwed that is. I mean figuratively. Like getting the short end of the stick? Drat.
P.S. And if you can get a bang for a buck, I'm sure it's gonna be used. Like, really really used.
