Naa, I'm not really like that. Else I wouldn't be on a SB in 2014.
The thing that disturbed me was the difference. We have same DDR3 1600, same Win7, same GPU (and mine is oc'ed faster), same nvidia drivers etc. At first, I was afraid for a defected GPU. So I went to his place to test. My GPU is running smooth on his rig while his GPU isn't running smooth on mine. So, what's left to blame except the difference between a 2500K@4.3 and a 4670K@4.5?

We are talking like ~15% difference. I highly doubt that makes the game playable vs unplayable. I could be wrong of course, but I am sure most people here will agree with me.

"not playable"well Not exactly but there are reports of 4.5ghz 2500k bottlenecking some gpus in bf4. The 2600k has more left in the tank than the sandy i5.

That being said the sandy i5 is still fine for 9 out 10 games out there.

He could be running pcie 3.0 while your running pcie 2.0. It doesn't make a lot of difference, but a lil.

Buy whatever suits your usage and is Sandy Bridge or newer. My 3960x still trounces all aspects of the current quad core releases and many of the 5930 tests since it clocks much higher than most of the 5930s...

In your case, the i5's lack of HT is what hurts. More and more games are benefiting from more than 4 cores now, even games that only use 4 threads, don't ask me how, but I play a 4 thread game a lot. When I bind it to 4 cores performance takes a massive hit vs letting it balance itself out on all 12 virtual cores. I would just find a 2600/2700 and swap it in and enjoy having 95% of the performance of cutting edge at a fraction of the cost lol.

Buy based on features not on "new" technologies, what features will you use and what are wasted?

Great statement.

Buy based on features and not on the minuscule IPC improvement from generation to generation.

Reasons why your system is running laggy on Far Cry can be due to many reasons and not particularly hardware based.
- check what background process is running and how much CPU is being utilize by these processes. There are times when a rogue process allocate a significant amount of CPU without user knowledge.
- Are all your drivers up to date? Game patch up to date?

I recommend you do a full system reformat and install from scratch...to eliminate accumulated junk over time and get rid of any potential rogue programs/processes.

Although a 4670k 4.5ghz ~ 2500k 5.2ghz, that single 970 is going to nearly always be the bottleneck with modern CPU. When running top end multi-gpus, the i5 will encounter situations where it'll be bottlenecking the GPUs.
