Perpetual tardiness? In recent history, the HD5xxx series beat the GTX 4xx series to market. The HD7xxx series beat the GTX 6xx series to market.

This is a good example of selective memory. It happens to everyone, so don't feel bad about it. thumb.gif

Maxwell was a disappointment.. Yup further extending the lead they already had in performance against AMD, along with lowering power consumption and full Direct X12 support. Such a disappointment biggrin.gif

I've got one of those 980 disappointments in my PC, running all my games nicely at 1440P and running really cool. Disappointing really thumb.gif

It is a disappointment because there was no big leap in performance.
Which is really what matters..
I am not going to buy a card because it uses less power but instead i will get something that runs games with higher fps.

4k resolution is already here.
We now need games that runs at 4k with at least 60 fps at max settings.
Because high end monitors and high end games should be satisfied by high end graphics cards.

Perf gained over the 780ti is lousy at best and retail price of the 980 is way too high above the msrp... the reason maxwell is selling like that was the huge perf you got at lower cost. Nowadays gpus are almost 150$ more expensive then they used to be. 450 for the 970 and close tp 650$ for most custom coolers On the 980.

If we could get a custom 980 for 650 in Denmark it would be great, ad another 100 and thats what we pay for it, i know cause I did and im not all that sorry about it allthough it is a bit overpriced compared to the 970 which i had for a week or so before upgrading to the 980. All in all the card is great but overpriced.

Yeah I don't agree, those with 780 Ti / 290X etc don't need to upgrade. For those buying now, the 970 / 980 give more performance at the same price point. More vram. Use less power and offer full Direct X12 support. That is not a disappointment. At least Nvidia released something worthy for new buyers. What did AMD give us recently... Tonga? Now that is a disappointment.

When i say BIG i mean something more than 50% improvement in performance over the previous gen 780 ti
I don't care about what AMD will provide, if they do similar then they are both a disappointment.
Your lack of agreement will not change any thing.

AMD's 390x will be the same "disappointment". Roughly 20-25% more perormance give or take over the 290x and it's going to be a miracle if they are able to cut the power consumption / heat / noise down. It's going to be just enough to beat the 980. Then NVIDIA will come out with something that will edge out the 390x.
No one is coming out with huge leaps in performance anymore. It's all going to be relatively incremental.
