I have a few days left to purchase the extended warranty through Sony. They offer a plan with accidental dmg and one that does not cover accidental dmg. The way I see it is get the extended warranty with accidental dmg or get a game, same price. The catch is that a person has 30 days from the date of ps4 purchase to add the warranty.
You get one year with the purchase of the system. The extended warranty extends it to 36 months. So you are buying an additional two years for a total of 36 months.
Interesting. I find that for most electronics, if they work fine right out the gate, they'll be fine for long time. My PS3 is still running, and its a version 2 of the console, so they last pretty long. I would personally use that money for an extra game.

For your question, warranty is a hit and a miss. You can buy it and your PS4 might never be broken and you might end up spending lots of money for nothing.
You might not pick it up and the system can be broken and without warranty that sucks.
It is really a personal choice.
Sucks that the system has 1 year warranty. It should be 2. In Turkey no electronic equipment can have 1 year warranty. Always 2.
One thing I didnt consider, if you get the extended warranty, and the system gets replaced, it might end up being a updated version of the system. We know consoles now get revisions when feasible by the manufacturer.
And that sucks. Because launch consoles always have the best quality parts for a bit.
