Sorry guys, got into a financial mess last year, and picking this up again.
Plus I believe my EVGA x79 motherboard is coming to its demise soon, so before it fully goes, might as well do an upgrade. Takes a while to reboot, if USB is not recognized right away- Logitech G633 headphones the troublesome USB device for EVGA mobo.

Going with ASUS this time. Maybe I should ask EVGA to get a replacement motherboard before I switch.

Anyone have suggestions on which mobo/cpu i should go with. Was thinking of following:

  • Asus Rog MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA DDR4 ATX Motherboard
  • Intel Boxed Core I7-6700K 4.00 GHz 8M Processor Cache 4 LGA 1151 BX80662I76700K
  • CORSAIR Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3333 (PC4-26600) Desktop Memory Model CMD16GX4M4B3333C16
  • Samsung 950 PRO Series - 512GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V5P512BW)

Going to pull the trigger in a day or two.

Going to try copper tubes this time with primo chill fittings. Fittings worked well on son's build with acrylic tubing.

My loop is frigging dirty. Thinking I should clean before dismantling with following::
  • Mayhems Blitz Cleaning System

That CPU 6950x is like $1650. Too much for my wallet.
Intel i7-6850K is around $628, which is $270 more than Intel Boxed Core I7-6700K. Maybe this one is reasonable. Its only for few years and then have to change everything.

if i am going 2011v3 mode then
ASUS LGA2011 5-Way Optimization SafeSlot ATX Motherboard ROG STRIX X99 GAMING at $

That changes options for EK as well. I wasn't considering the GPU upgrade to 1080 at this time. But if I do then EK would change as follows

  • EK-FB ASUS X99 Monoblock - Nickel
  • EK-FC1080 GTX - Nickel
  • EK-FC1070 GTX Backplate - Nickel

Thanks for responses Sean W and WhiteWulfe.
Monoblock for ASUS RAMPAGE V EDITION 10 is not out as yet. Its like $260 more than X99 STRIX.
Will send email to EK to see if they can give ETA.
I just got a Asus X99-a Mobo used here on the forums for $125

There is a mono block for that one

Thanks Sean for changing my mind to switch from 1151 to 2011v3

Got following from NewEgg since pickup is like 30 minutes away and amazon has a long wait:
  • ASUS ROG STRIX X99 GAMING LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

And following from Amazon. Got i7-6850 for 40 lanes instead of $200 cheaper i7-6800, for upgrade to second 1080 and marginal performance.
For now no 1080 as it is not available.
  • Intel Boxed Core i7-6850K Processor (15M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz) FC-LGA14A 3.6 6 BX80671I76850K
  • Corsair DOMINATOR® Platinum Series 16GB (4x 4GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C15 memory kit for DDR4 Systems 16 DDR4 3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) DDR4 3200
  • 3x Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition Single Fan (switching out right radiator Cougar fans for aesthetics)
  • 3x Corsair Air Series SP120 PWM High Performance Edition - Twin Pack (switching out front Cougar fans for aesthetics)
  • Samsung 950 PRO Series - 512GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V5P512BW)
  • Corsair Dominator Platinum Light Bar Upgrade Kit
  • Ridgid 38048 1/2-Inch Capacity Instrument Tubing Bender
  • Ridgid 32915 1/8-Inch to 1-Inch X-Cel Screw Feed Tubing/ Conduit Cutter
  • Ridgid 34965 Inner-Outer Reamer for 1/4 to 1-1/2-inch tube

Still have to do FrozenCPU and PerformancePCS orders.

By the sounds of it that strix board is pretty nice... I kinda want one although the rampage one seems to appeal to me the most. Either way can't wait to see what you do with it!
