yeah nevermind eh, it aint easy but im learning to be patient, sorta

turns out one of the rads i ordered isnt available, got an email saying discontinued. so now i gotta return my other rad, and search for new rads. im thinking aluminium airplex ams at the moment (if they will fit)

the gpu block has to be returned, and also the cpu block as i dont think it will match the classified gpu block. EK emailed and said the classified block would be nickel. so im gona wait until its released and then order a cpu block to match at that time.

for now, im gonna order a stock cooler for the cpu, so i can build as soon as the case turns up, test all parts are working ok, and at least be able to use the pc while i collect watercooling parts together.

oh yeah, and i think im gona return the pwm d5, and get the aquacomputer one, and im probably gonna switch to an aqualis too. even through its black and not chrome ..... duno yet, have to wait and see on this one.

lots of changes, lots to return, lots to organise still. im not sure how true i will be able to stay to my original idea with akira, but i did order a mascot which will hopefully arrive next week, and im sure we can have some fun with that wink.gif

Hello, its finally update time!

I have got my hands on the gpu waterblock that EK have come out with for the evga classified, so i can go ahead with the watercooling. i have also got aquacomputer airplex modularity radiators. i have been worried that they wont fit as they are quite large rads.

as you can see they only just fit, they are literally touching. the upper rad can however be raised up a few mm by putting rubber washer between the case and the drop in mount (i have the 39mm top extension for the s5, and fans are thinner than 35mm, so there is some room in the top of the case). so yeah, they only just fit, but as you can see, there is very little room left for the aquaero.

i used a hacksaw to cut down both the aquaero mounts, and the case mounts, as they were just too large to fit in the small space that is left. and i also swapped the aquaero mounts around.

my new slimline aquaero with black bezel. you can see in the first picture above that since the size reduction it sits nice and flush with the case front.

i have some leds lying around from a past project, and i wanted to test them on the aquaero, but i didnt have the right connector. so i just soldered a plug straight on the pins on the back of the aquaero.

then just made a little strip for the length of the case like this

its just sitting in there at the moment, and is controlled via the aquaero. im not sure exactly where the lights will go yet, maybe at the top facing down, or at the sides, we shall see.

another issue i had was since the radiators are extra thick, and the classy card is extra tall, there was literally ZERO room for the tubing to go from the top rad down into the card. i was forced to move it to the second pci x16 slot to make some room for the tubes. because i have the 5820k cpu, this means the card is running at x8 instead of x16, but my mate thundercat said it wasnt gonna be an issue. and after fps testing in game, it seems he is right, it still runs games just fine, i cant tell any difference.

it might be possible to have the tubing exit the radiator from one of the side ports (circled in red), this there would be no need for a gap, and slot 1 could be used. im not sure if this is a usable exit port, and i guess i will have to ask shoggy if this would work.

i had a nightmare earlier. i didnt realise that the aquacomputer d5 needed to be connected via usb. i had not bothered to plug in the usb cable, and had everything installed, with literally no way of plugging in the usb cable without taking out the res. it was just too close to the bottom of the case, and way in the back behind pipes and wires. then thankfully i realised there was a removable plate on the bottom of the s5.

this hole saved my life. and it would make a great place for a drainage port i think. just remove the panel, put the case in the bath, and open the tap. i guess it was designed for this?

so its progressing, and its running ok. leak tested for 24 hours, got the pump running at 25%, 60 litres/hour and its really quiet and awesome. next step will be custom wires when i get the urge to do some more work to it, and then onward towards completion.

some akira mascots are here too

just a quick one uploaded from my phone. this extra large classy card is quite a feature.

im not sure what color dye to add... i have some mayhems yellow here, might try adding some later.

i stuck the leds up inside the top of the case, they really fill it up with light, looks nice even in this daytime shot.

Looking good. Imo, Mayhems yellow dye doesn't really look good by itself. Makes it look kinda like piss.
