CARLSBAD, Calif. - Razer™, a world leader in connected devices and software for gamers, today announced the Razer Seirēn (stylized as "Seirēn" and pronounced "Sigh-ren"), a plug-and-play digital microphone designed for studio-grade recording and streaming.
This thing is $180, double what you can buy a Snowball Yeti for on a regular basis! I would be interested in how it stacks up against other offerings, because at that price it has some serious competition.

I got my Blue Yeti for $70. Audio-Technica AT2020 is like $130. This Razer mic seems way over priced, plus its razer, you will end up having to RMA for problems in a week.
$50 over what is considered a "top tier" mic for PC enthusiasts. Yeah, okay Razer. Id like you to prove me wrong on my speculations but im on quite the streak.
When I first read the news I was thinking "Alright, not bad looking, the green could go, but should be a decent option for like $50." Then I looked at the price and about laughed/fell out of my chair.
Hmmm.
I was gonna say that if its coming with the pop filter and the mount it *could've* been around the same price as an AT2020 + Mount + Filter (depending on the level-grade you're buying obviously).
The control wheels looks cheap. And as for the specs, there is better and cheaper alternative. But hey. "Famous" brand premium price, I'm not really surprised.
Then I saw that the mount and filter was sold separately, or in a bundle, and the price of the bundle is $230. Not really the best bang for the buck there.
The only good point is that its targeted towards "Pro Youtubers / Streamers" and not like all that gaming non sense. Even thought Youtube/Streaming include Gaming, its not the direct target. Unlike all their other products.

at that price and made by razer i seriously doubt its studio quality. more like high end gamer quality. thats the price of a cheap low end studio microphone
I will eat my hat if that thing sounds as good as a blue yeti, or even a cad u37 ($45ish).
And yet, there are probably people on my Steam friendslist that will buy it and rave about it as publicly and as often as possible, despite no one giving a crispy flip if they used a $8 Walmart special.

thats pretty much what I was thinking.... I don't give a crap what I sound like as long as people understand me when I'm gaming. I use a 10 dollar mic for the record. If I was doing studio work I would use an actual studio mic. not razer L33Tz0R5 mic.

$230 USD all in puts it right in the range of the new Rode NT1 that comes -with- a high end shockmount AND a fairly decent pop filter too. I would much rather go with that over a Razer, since Rode (or Blue, Audio Technica, Sennheiser, et) is actually known for their quality products that actually are used in studios all around the world.
What is with Razer trying to take on all these high end companies?

I'd still rather go for a product with a very well known quality.
Also, doesn't AudioTechnica's 4xxx lineup start around that pricing? My bad, the 4040 is $299 USD, $349 if you add on the studio pack (shock mount, pop filter).
The only good thing I can say about it is that it looks quite nice, props to the designers.
Other than that, its probably going to be overpriced garbage like all the other Razer audio products. Whether it is in fact garbage remains to be seen, but I don't expect much.

Its getting annoying but I think the audience for this kind of product are just kids (or close to) that don't have any audio/recording knowledge at all and/or just go with the flashy gimmicky thing that comes first.
OCN isn't exactly the best answer that Razer can get
If you're talking about actually using a studio microphone rather than a microphone designed for computer use, you need something that will supply phantom power to the mic. I'm not sure if your soundcard will, and I'm at work so can't look it up. There are tons of USB audio interface products that will do it, some of which are not all that expensive. I believe I payed $70 for mine.
And yea, I agree with the general sentiment here about this product. Seems way over priced. I feel like I barely spent more than that on my AKG Perception 220 plus USB interface, pop filter, and stand. It was a few years back so I can't remember what I paid for it all, though.
I will say that I was expecting it to be ugly but it actually looks decent, so I guess props to them on that.
I was going to say the same thing. I own a yeti, but I don't know if the basic design is a standard for high quality desktop mics. I own and like a few razer products, and as everyone else has mentioned, that price is redonculous. I got my blue yeti used on amazon for like $70, and it's pretty awesome. I wonder if this thing will do well at that price. I don't think many gamers are going to spring $200 for a mic, and people who want high quality audio for whatever reason would probably go with an established audio brand.
It looks nice, but it doesn't do anything in addition to what the Yeti does, from what I can see. I've had my Yeti for over a year now, and a year back I got it for $79.99.
