I know many people will disagree with this decision and recommend a i5-4690K but it's only an $80 difference and budget isn't my biggest issue, so I don't mind the added cost. I'm also adding a 256GB SSD and will use that for apps/games while keeping my OS on the 128GB Plextor M5 Pro I have now. As always, I appreciate any input or opinions on my planned build components. The replies so far have been very helpful.
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz LGA 1150
($279.99 - Microcenter)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 LGA 1150 ATX
($104.99 - ($89.99 A/R) Microcenter)
I don't plan to SLI and will likely do some light OC'ing, plus this board has gotten pretty good reviews.
Case: Fractal Design Define R5
($109.99 - Newegg)
PSU: SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze 520W
($69.99 - Newegg)
This was one of the recommended units in the PSU thread here and it's fully modular, which is a plus for me.
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock CPU Cooler
($34.90 - Newegg)
I was originally going to get a nice high end liquid AIO cooler since I planned on getting the 4690K and would be OC'ing it pretty heavily but I think this one should do just fine for the 4790K. It's quiet, which is my biggest factor, and this company has a great track record when it comes to coolers. Even with a light OC, I think this should be able to handle things with no issues.
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB
($109.00 - Amazon)
Again, I'll likely keep my OS on my current 128GB Plextor M5 Pro and use this for installing games and apps.
Total: $708.86 (original target budget was $700)
Thanks again all.
