Hard drive question

if i get a larger drive like a 3TB drive (shown in link) will the failure rate go up cause its a large memory capacity? I've herd that it will, any true?

Depends on the drive. Often, you'll actually find that larger drives have LOWER failure rates.
And of course, a single 3TB will be far less likely to fail than one of 3x 1TB.
Most HDDs don't actually fail all at once, they'll start having random errors first, which gives you plenty of warning, so you can replace the drive without losing anything.

Of course, you really should have a backup of all data that you don't want to lose.

There are only two kinds of drives: those that have already failed and those that are going to fail. Just make sure you maintain at least one backup (two would be much, much better).

With cheap online backup services such as Crashplan and Backblaze, there is absolutely no excuse for not backing up.
If you're worried about the cost of replacing a busted HDD, then you should be buying from whichever brand has the best warranty service.
