What are your guys thoughts on this? Thanks by the way!

With any Linux distro I always prefer nvidia for a GPU. Plus a 750ti would fit well there and is very low powered.

Anyhoo off topic how do you like your headphones?

Doesn't need an OS as SteamOS is free, assuming that's what he's planning on using. As for a controller, he may want one, but they aren't that much and depend a lot of preference for a specific model. And my headphones?

You get the newer Steamroller core and about 10 percent better IPC, which is a big deal in a SFF system that you can't overclock much, if at all.

You can certainly get more powerful hardware by going Intel, but that makes the cost of the build a lot higher, and you don't really need the extra power for a Steambox.

Yeah I forgot they released it with 8 for now. Eh, you can still install SteamOS. Haven't tried it out since its initial release though. As for the headphones, they're fantastic for $30. I'm eagerly awaiting for this paypal money to clear though so I can pick up something more in the $150 range.

Thanks guys looking at the following build so far;

AMD: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NBQWjX
or
INTEL: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sNJ4wP

I been talking with my friends who want the systme build and so far they are leaning toward the intel with an i5. Still have about a month or two to go before we get each parts in unless some go on sale now and we end up picking them up slowly.

Personally, I'd go for the intel build. But if you want to give the AMD rig more of a consideration, I'd recommend to get Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and lock your CPU clock to 2.9 to simulate the FX 6@4.5 in 1-3 core loads.
(based on the data from http://www.overclock.net/t/1493307/relative-access-to-execution-throughput-comparison-chart )

edit: you could also turn off cores/HT in bios to get an idea of how a simulated g3258 would pan out = D. Though I think a stock i5 would be a decent middle ground between overclocked g3258 and overclocked FX 6300.
(keep in mind that usually a z97/z87 board is needed to oc unlocked intel parts, and only for the g3258 did intel allow board manufacturers to enable OC on other boards if they want)
