Roccat ryos mk pro orange/red led mod

bought a few roccat ryos mk pro's for cheap on ebay I've never owned a mechanical keyboard and I live in a magical place where I can't try them to out see what I would like (switch wise) . so i bought blues, browns and reds and finally decided that I liked the reds most. I did have some gripes though blue is not my favorite color of led because they are blindingly bright as hell. even in roccats infinite wisdom of 5 brightness settings the num lock indicator and thumb keys were exempt from this. while the thumb keys weren't distracting the numlock was. It was the same as the other blue led's but at full bright, very distracting for gaming at night. so I decided to change out the led's. the thumb buttons are smd's #0805 which are slightly bigger than the original but fit fine and if they were any smaller you'd want to shoot yourself. for the num lock led's I went with some diffused red 3mm (diffused leds aren't as bright) and finally for the keys max keyboards had a great savings for black friday so I ordered some red and orange leds (3mm flangeless). check it out below

smd #0805 vs original

Installed

new vs old

Dim/Bright

Blue Dim/Bright

non adjustable brightness led (caps lock )

Diffused red ( caps lock )

its kind of hard to see but this is the layout red is whats highlighted and the rest is orange. all are uniform but my camera isn't picking that up

Heya mate

Is it hard to replace the LED's?
Because in the last month I've had 13 LED's that died on me.
So if it's not too hard I can try to replace em myself...

Thx!

it wasn't to bad tearing it down was the difficult part. the led's were just tedious but this is the third one I've tore down. I reccomend pulling the F key rows off and the space bar. I can't remember if you need to pull all the keys I think I did the first time but later found out you don't need to but at the same time its a great time to clean your keys if you haven't in a while.  after removing all the screws. start pulling it apart from the bottom, I can't remember if I started from the edges but I know that in the middle where the thumb keys are can get stuck sometimes so what I did was put my thumb below the roccat logo at the bottom and my middle finger (remove space bar) down where the space bar was and pull up if it won't pop loose you can reach a small screw driver down there and unclip the tabs that hold it in just becarefull there is a small cable that connects to the thumb keys ( tabs are on the left and right). this guy goes through it pretty well check it out. https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=55895.0    also if you've never down leds on a keyboard ( this is my first) heres a video of how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luHI4UjkyCY . I bought my leds on maxkeyboards and so far they all still work. Hope that helps

Where do you buy LED's? Is there a brand I should be looking at for reliability?

Thanks.
