I have a FX-8150 and a mob that is a 4+1power phase.
I'm wondering if it will be safe to disable 2 cores (1 module) to run it in this mobo at stock speed?
I know that this mobo had a FX-6100 in it for about 2 years just just at stock speed.
It is a MSI 760GM-P34 (FX), which is a unheatsinked mobo. I really don't want to run all 8 cores on the FX-8150, because I don't want to see fireworks. I was thinking since it had a FX-6100 running at stock speed in it. It should be able to handle a FX-8150 with 1 module disable at stock speed.
Wow... it's a 3+1 phase rated for 95w TDP... don't risk it IMO... but turn it into a 6 core I guess.... just monitor the temps... iono. The power usage. Maybe undervolt it.
970A-G46 4+1 Yes 125W Avoid for 8-cores, OC Yes Throttling Unknown 4 transistors 8-pin ATX MSI has confirmed that 8-cores exceed the safe limits of this board.
...
On second thought look at that. the 970a-g46 is confirmed 8 cores is not safe for 125w rated. Dang. Yours is 95w rated... I feel like hexcore is pushing it. undervolt whatever you put in there.
Well I don't think it is a 3+1 power phase. It has 5 power phase on it, so it is a 4+1 or 3+1+1 power phase.
