And moving on...
Most of the hardware is in now. I'll try to get some pics up soon, but working on the X2 is probably a good idea too
It's raining today, so I would so much rather be working from my office at home
At least I have a lot of company - full crew building cases today trying to get backorders out
I'll be building a second "shadow" build along with Zeus - "RenderMax II" with some parts left over from RenderMax and from the parts bin which will be used to build a slave machine for rendering. Both boards have dual gigabit LAN connections for maximum bandwidth.
The video system is the big question mark. I've pretty much resigned myself into believing that GM200 won't be available until late Spring at best. My software is CUDA based so it won't really matter what AMD does (except maybe to "encourage" Nvidia
). RenderMax II doesn't really need much of of anything since it's just a slave machine (and a home to my Claro sound card
), but I may put my trusty MSI 580 in it, just so it has an "acceptable" level of video performance.
A 980 probably won't work because I'm concerned 4GB of VRAM won't be enough. I could "steal" the titan from Toxic and put a 980 in it. That would probably be enough to get me by for the next few months, maybe even past the initial "sticker shock" phase of GM 200 unless the nice folks at Nvidia want to help us out
Things to kick around... I hear the X2 calling...Edited by Jim-CL - 1/10/15 at 3:19pm
