In need of some new ram and was thinking of getting 3x4 GB set. Any recommendations?

in an X58? most X58 has to run ram at higher voltages if you're OCing, to prevent damage to the CPU/IMC.

Well I ran them at 1.5 when I oc'd and they worked great on my Gigabyte x58-oc board.

Why so many high latency 1600 kits? When DDR3 first came to the market 1600 9-9-9 looked like a downgrade to me.

You might be better off getting single sticks of the same part number, or buy two or three 2x4GB kits. I'm actually in the same boat, and these look very temping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231538
