See, that's the problem.... you think there is no problem. The problem already exists in our culture that is restricting certain people from getting the best education and experience. OPEN YOUR EYES.

Go read up on Silicon Valley VC.... go understand how virtually all pitches are by white or Asian males: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/innovations/wp/2014/10/07/the-glaring-gender-dilemma-silicon-valley-venture-capitalists-are-hiding-from/

You seem to believe that education and experience are blind and fair. You are wrong. If you still believe it, there is massive amounts of research on this topic. If you still don't believe it after you read the research... well....

Denialism doesn't allow for a change of mind based on facts, empirical evidence, or scientific method.

How much more fundamentally in denial can one be, when you are a man telling women, they don't have a real issue, they just need to work harder, given the fact a man can't even experience this being done to them. They hold true to the denial even when other men and women, or corporate entities, admit there is something wrong. They hold true to the denial even when other countries have sometimes higher than 45% female ratios in comp science, such as programming in Singapore. They hold true to denial, when scientific study after scientific study has proven there is something broken with the system that gets minorities and women into computer science, specifically programming. They hold true to the denial despite nearly every major programming break-through in history was done by brilliant women. They hold true to the denial when study after study shows that more women are majoring in Science than ever before, except one, Computer Science/Engineering, which has been on the decline since the 80s, and major decline in the 90s. They hold true to their denial, when women with equal qualifications are hired at lower rates than men even when more women graduated in those fields! Even at the PhD. level of hiring, women are hired only 33% of the time compared to their male counterparts.

The belief and illusion of hiring based on merit, meritocracy, is a fallible illusion that has NEVER been true.

You aren't guaranteed a job graduating college anymore, this affected everyone, not just a "group" of people. You are even less likely to get that job as a women or as a minority. You are even more likely, that if you do get that job as a women, you will make less than an equal, EQUAL, male peer. EQUAL meaning time spent in job, no children, no extraneous vacation or maternity leave. EQUAL time and performance. You will still make less pay, even if that actual pay percentage is not 100% agreed upon.

Denialism and confirmation bias.

So as a white, nonveteran male, it's easier to find a job? I'm not buying it.

That article about "the bastion of sexism in the technology industry" makes it sound like the funding mirrors the education: generally women aren't interested in STEM.
All the "research" on this subject is done by the same limp-wristed latte-sippers that spew this crap. They pass it off as science but they have BS degrees in African American/Women's studies and the like, which are nothing more than a haven for Cultural Marxists.

Wow, some of these replies are disappointing to read... Sometimes I think that we are progressing as a people, and are breaking down borders of bias and disrespect... then I read stuff like this.

How ignorant is it just to say "girls just aren't interested in sciences"...

It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the opportunities (or lack thereof) for them in those fields, or our societal view on how a woman should act, or the media, or what toys they are given as a child... I mean, Women are just engrained down to their DNA to love jewelry, Disney love stories, weddings, the color pink, and Barbies... Woman are just naturally not into science. rolleyes.gif /sarcasm off

Forced and artificial "diversity" is apparent and conscious discrimination.

I'm boycotting Intel for this.

Id wager that if everyone was given free access to the best education possible in any field you would still see a gender inequity in many fields. You are taking a small fragment of data and trying to extrapolate from it while ignoring the hundreds of other factors that affect the outcome. Missing the forest for the trees so to speak.

OMG... yes. White males have an easier time finding a job in virtually every industry... in the world. Seriously, this is news to you?

I agree. Inequity is pervasive and very often subconscious. These biases may be small but have a compounding and multiplier effect over time and over large populations.

I was providing an example related to the topic. I am fully aware of the many factors. However, to say there is no such thing as "white male privilege" is laughable due to the overwhelming evidence.

(I'm a minority. I am also familiar with social work, women studies, LGBT, and other majority groups.)

Stop with the generalization. White males do not have better job access in EVERY field. There are fields that are primarily women, how can you ignore those and still claim that you arent cherry picking?

http://publications.sreb.org/2002/02N02_Diversity_in_Nursing.pdf

~4000 men versus ~34,000 women
And ethnicity breaks down similar to national demographic percentages, mirroring the makeup of the population in the country the data was collected from within a few percentage points.

Did I not say "virtually"?

Nursing, teaching, and a few other professions are "traditionally" female dominated..... How about asking WHY they are "traditionally" female dominated? rolleyes.gif

Now, read up on why there are so few men in nursing. Now think.... would these same reasons apply to male-dominated fields?

Then consider.... how many male-dominated fields are there?
