First time overclocking question - Page 7

I am about to run AIDA for two hours now because I have to work today.
When I come home, I'm going to let it run overnight.

I made notes of all the stuff you told me yesterday.....how long to run AIDA, what settings, etc.

If there is any instability or super high temps, the testing will stop, right? LOL..don't want this computer to melt down on me

if your doing aida64 with first 4 checkboxes test (aka the standard stability test) then temps wont go avove 65 prob.

but heres what I do:

teamviewer on your cellphone or work pc, teamviewer on your home PC and you can monitor it all day.

motherboard will save your cpu if temps go to high

then when you do FPU test, just be around or watch a movie, etc. thats the high stress high temp test for a few hrs and then ur good to go.
dont even have to do FPU only if you dont want, but its fun

With the settings of 1.25 vcore and 44 multi, my computer failed AIDA after about 45 minutes. AIDA also told me that max temp was 68c.
I saved a screenshot of it and when I get back from work tonight, I'll post it here.

So, the next step is going to be to raise vcore a bit. How much would you raise it? .02?

Well I had my first success of the first run of AIDA.

While I was at work tonight I was thinking that I want to try for a lower OC for starters, so when I got home, I found Raja's OC guide on here and there was a link for a quick and easy 4.2 OC. These are the settings he told me to use:

1) AI Overclock Tuner setting: XMP
2) Core Ratio: 42
3) Vcore of 1.2

In addition to those settings, I made the following changes to BIOS based on what I read in the motherboard manual:

1) Xtreme Tweak: Enabled
2) VRM Spread Spectrum: Enabled

For the two hours I had AIDA running, the CPU temp maxed out at 63C.

One thing I noticed about the OC Panel is that the CPU temperature was spot on with the CPU temperature reported by AIDA. So, maybe that extra box is useful.

Anyway, here's a screenshot.....

Hopefully image is clear enough to read.

I'm going to drop the Vcore a bit and let it run overnight. I'll let it run for 6 hours. Assuming that it all works out, I want to run AIDA again with FPU only according to what someone suggested for about an hour and a half.

This is all a big deal to me. It's my first time doing anything this extensive. Thanks to everybody who helped! thumb.gif

Assuming that everything checks out fine with a 4.2 GHZ OC and a lower Vcore temp, I want to try again for a 4.4 GHZ. That's my next target.

EDIT....

I did a 6 hour AIDA run with a vcore of 1.18 and the 4.2 OC ran perfectly fine. Stable and a lower temp thumb.gif

I'll post a screenshot later after work

LOL...that IS a lot of gigglehurts!

Earlier today I did a 2 hour run of AIDA with 44 multi and vcore of 1.27(although CPU ID registered a 1.28 during that run...can't figure that out)
Temps held around 67 c

I have to do more testing but I'm just wondering if that is good.

Ideally I would love to get to 4.5

Oh and I did a 1 hour of AIDA FPU only(42 multi, forgot what vcore was) and it did run for an hour at around 70-75 degrees. Is that a bit high?

wow dude! you have a great chip then!

your temps are low and your vcore is low, dont bother with 4.4 ghz unless you need it for video editing or rendering.

if you are just gaming and tooling around, you have a lot of gigglehurtz. thats for sure.

temps are great!

man, you have definitely got a great chip

google or search this forum a bit more on words like: vdrop, vdroop an llc (load line calibration)

and after you understand that, search "offset-mode" and not manual voltage in bios wink.gif

I've tried for 4.4Ghz and I'm not happy with the temps....high 60s
Even with 4.3 Ghz, the temps are mid 60's
I am 99.9% sure that I'm going to stick with 4.2 Ghz......much lower temps!

I think that I do have a great chip.

Thanks! thumb.gif

I'm going to definitely study those terms a bit more....I'll do that when I get home from work tonight.

I did read a bit about them....vdroop has something to do with built-in protection.
Vdrop is to be expected.....as long as it doesn't drop below 5%

The thing is that my vcore isn't dropping, it's increasing.

I have it set in BIOS at 1.184 but during AIDA testing, it fluctuates between 1.200 and 1.184........those are the only two values
