Ok I got the new case. I am pretty happy with it. It seems very well made. It is big and heavy, just what I needed. I took some pics of the case and started installing some items for test fit. I ran into a few small problems all easily overcome, except one. It is bothering me and I will need some advice with it. But first some pictures.

Those are 3 92mm fans they do move some air but are a little loud at full speed.

Now some pictures with some things fitted in place and the few problems I ran into. First the xspc reservoir.

The only issue here though I did not take a picture of it yet, is the teeth on the ring that holds the pump to the reservoir sticks up a little higher than the top of the reservoir. Not a lot, but enough that you can't get it in if it is screwed to the mounting bracket. I will have to file it down a little to get it to work.
Next issue. I am not sure yet where I am going to mount my hdd's. I should be able to find a place though.
Next problem. I thought these holes in the back would be a good place for my panel mounted koolance qdcs. But I am going to need to make the hole a hair bigger. Easy fix.

The last problem, if it even is a problem, is the power supply. I am not sure it is going to get enough air flow. The way it mounts, the fan is almost touching the panel the motherboard mounts on. I can just fit my figure between them, so maybe 1/2 inch clearance around the fan of the power supply. Is that enough? If not I can drill some air holes to it. Part of it will be blocked by the motherboard though. Maybe up to 1/3rd. I tried to take some pictures though it is hard to see what I am talking about since it is enclosed in the case and not visible from the outside. Here are the pics.

How much space do I need above the power supply fan?

Thanks

I sent an email to Corsair asking if that 1/2 inch was enough space above the PSU fan, but they have not replied yet. I am still looking for some help with this question. Thanks.

Just got a reply from Corsair. They said the 1/2 inch is enough clearance above the fan.

Ok I filed down the ring on the pump a little, and it fits in now. It is still a little tight though so I might take off another millimeter.

I guess if no one has any interest in this project, I will stop updating it. Let me know if you care to see anymore progress.
Thanks

XSPC do a pretty ally ring to replace the over-sized ribbed thing supplied as standard...

As a Lian Li PC-D600 owner - I like to have some space to get creative for a change, my Mitx system is a nightmare.

6U cases are more likely to appeal to us BOINC supporters with our hordes of hardware biggrin.gif

( At least I'm enjoying the thread thumb.gif )

dunx

P.S. In general 60mm fans will be noisier then 80 mm fans for the same airflow....

Awesome I did not know that but went to their site and sure enough they have it. http://www.xs-pc.com/pump-accessories/d5-aluminium-screw-ring-black
I will probably keep the plastic one on here for now, but good to know for future rebuilding.
Here is what I Did last night. not a lot, but I work about 15 hrs a day so not a lot of time except on the weekends, and they are normally spend with the wife and kids.

Time to enlarge these holes a little to get my Koolance Quick disconnects mounted.

Perfect fit now.

Here is the front of the case again. I have the XSPC res mounted in. also removed some unnecessary buttons ect. I still need to mount the bluray drive and fan controller.

just hooking up wires to see what I needed and what I didn't. These will probably get expando on them, after I get the fan controller in and start running all the wires. Just test fitting everything right now.

Here is a view down at the D5 pump. It looks like I will be able to fill the res without removing it. I was planning on having to slide it out to fill. more ugly wires sorry they are bad. smile.gif

I will probably work on it again tonight after work. I will keep updating as I go.

You can get an adapter that fits the reservoir that has a standard G1/4 thread, allowing a length of hose to be run to a fill-port.....

Not brave enough to bore a hole in a new $400 case myself !

Then I realised that if I swap to a XSPC D5 Photon set-up I won't need a fill-port anyway, Duh !

dunx

P.S. Your case is $484 here in the UK !

Yeah I thought about putting a hose on my fill port, but I am not sure I need to mess with it. I can get to it in the case, and I left myself enough hose to slide the reservoir out and fill it too.
This is what I got done at lunch time. Not a lot, but moving along. I also attached the tube to the bottom one, and to the inlet on the reservoir.
