r9 280-x crashing

This recently happened when I removed my cpu coolers from both my gpus to reverse the cooler head position. Upon restarting my computer and launching a game at max settings, my computer would crash withing a few minutes of playing. How can I fix this issue?

Well.... you should give us more information. What do you mean by crashes ? BSOD ? Give us exact error message , are the driving crashing ?
Check what is the GPU temperature on desktop and ingame after 2-3 minutes of load. What is the rest of your system ?

Sounds like you didn't reseat the coolers the right way and they are overheating. Hard to tell without more details.

I would play a game such as bf4 at max settings for a couple minutes and the screen would freeze, the sound would turn into buzzing, and I would not be able to create any commands. The only way to resolve the issue would be to restart the computer.

I tried to run benchmarks to look for issues on furmark and kombustor but it won't allow me to use both cards.

I'm pretty sure I did, according to afterburner both cards are at 35-36c idle at 50% fan speed

Did you replace the thermal pads on the memory. Maybe over heating on load

The 280x idles so low that it doesn't need a cooler on it. My friend booted his r9 280 without an cooler on it. If he put any load on it I'm sure it would've burnt up. Thermal paste is cheap and you should really check and see if the cooler is making contact with GPU die.

If you can play a game for about 2 minutes before it freezes, play for 30 seconds - exit - and report back on temps (screenshot would be better).
