This is the reason why I took a 750 Ti over a 260x. I really liked the idea of Mantle as a lightweight API that took the load off the CPU, but then I looked at all the problems Mantle had. In my case (260x and I3 4330) the CPU isn't the bottleneck, so I wasn't going to gain many frames anyway. Then, many people had memory leaks, inconsistent frame times, or even a regression in FPS.
That being said, I hope my 750 TI FTW is enough to handle GTA V at medium settings for 60FPS...
And add in the dx11 efficiency on cpu bound games on nvidia right now...
Dx12 isn't too far out either and will be industry standard, which will be good since amd will refocus instead of wasting time on the mantle sideshow. Bring on 16n, and gen2 hbm! I'll buy gta v for the pc as soon as I catch it around $30 or my patience wears out, whichever's sooner.
