They're two shills posing as normal posters. What can one expect? Kinda sad still to see Speedy lost.

Also map you're killing me lol that was great.

Speedy and Maarten always make outlandish claims about AMD's performance figures. It's really funny to see their arguments ripped apart by simple collection of benches.

Thread Starter
Jeez, this stuff has been debated to death. Could we get back to Carrizo/Carrizo-L from a desktop perspective. Even though a desktop variant may not have scaled well the iGPU upgrade alone would be worth it. The improvements seen in Tonga in regard to memory bandwidth would do wonders at alleviating the bandwidth problem on the current FM2+ DDR3 platform. Add to that a big reduction in TDP, I was really looking forward to a 0db Carrizo build for mild 1080p gaming and office work.

AMD's product rollout has been super strange lately. Kaveri first for desktops? with months and months of waiting for the first mobile product? Now the opposite, mobile first but dropping desktop entirely? I just don't get it, keep limiting your revenue sources.... makes a lot of sense redface.gif

Oh boy, another thread that's devolved into IPC arguments. Can we resolve this now?

Intel has more IPCs.

There. Now what about that whole "won't be appearing on desktop" thing? wink.gif

So I guess when they said upgrade to Kaveri, they meant mobile Kaveri... Nothing else wouldd make sense. X_x

For me iGPU upgrades are hard to get excited over as I'm not ever going back to those dark ages on my home machines. That said, if I had to AMD would be first choice.

I think they're having a lot of their resources focus on Zen and the desktop/laptop implementation of that. AMD losing the enthusiast crowd CPU-wise isn't good. Maybe this was partially done because they know Intel isn't doing Broadwell? Idk can't think of any other explanations.

Agreed, but Carrizo is a huge leap from Kaveri. I was talking about 2k and 3k series from Intel i3 to i5 range somewhere between. It's silly for people to belittle in favor of their brand. I agree Intel will have the higher IPC but to say that next generation, Carrizo, won't be pretty cool in terms of advancement is just a bunch of epeen.

"false" you say.
Kaveri has a slightly higher IPC than FX and 60% is generally recognized as the difference between Haswell and FX.
I agree with your benches and you get mad at me... What is wrong with you?

Purposely misinterpreting much I agreed that Kaveri had a lower IPC.

You're as always turning a thread into filth that isn't even relevant to the topic.

Too bad NVidia didn't have a mark in x86 core technology.

Carizzo is 30% faster than Kaveri in IPC. Kaveri is 20% faster in IPC than Bulldozer. Kaveri is equal to last generation's i3-i5, but has a huge dedicated pipeline to GPUs. So if it's 30% faster it could be something truly revolutionary, especially when HSA is used.

If you was to compare the A8-7600 (45W) versus the desktop i5 sandy with same consumption it would end up being fairly equal.
From a IPC point of view Kaveri isn't close enough yet.

Still this part could rock in mobile.
AMD stated 3.5GHz so I don't see how it wouldn't be good enough.

Just because Carrizo won't be on desktop doesn't mean Excavator won't. tongue.gif

And no, I don't mean as an 8-core FX part either - I'm thinking more of an iGP-less APU variant, like the 750k, 760k, 860k, etc.
