I'm all for a minimal approach just so long as it requires minimal resources to get there. I know it's not really relevant to most ocn users but sometimes people forget that the main reason there's still so many windows xp pc's still out there is that its minimum requirements suit older computers, I remember running xp on 512mb of ram and it ran just fine but I wouldn't dream of trying to run a newer os on that same machine.
I'm of the opinion the os should be the bare minimum, just something that sits in the background and brings the hardware and software work together without hogging system resources for itself. I mean who builds a record smashing pc just to sit on the windows desktop?
Huh, you haven't run XP SP3 with 512MB RAM have you? (Answer: You will be crying after 3 minutes of your PC just trying to load Windows)
I agree that OS's should run on fewer resources than they currently do, though. I mean look at what Android can do yet it runs pretty light. We need something like that on a desktop.
