Any disadvantages to upgrading Windows over a fresh install?

The title pretty much says it all. I'll probably install Windows 10 when it's released, but I'd rather not do a fresh install if I don't have to.

Upgrading can have issues that a fresh install won't, especially on installs that have existed for awhile.

I avoiding upgrading whenever possible. It's not hard to backup stuff, external drives are dirt cheap, and most people have multiple drives.

I have a secondary drive next to my SSD so it isn't that much of an issue. I guess I'll just do a fresh install when it comes out. Thanks for the prompt response.

I've been doing tech support for at least 5 years now and from my experience upgrades from one O.S. to the next tend to be problematic later on especially when it comes to pre-installed programs retained after the upgrade. You have to remember when you do an upgrade from let's say 7 to 8, programs designed for Windows 7 but nor for Windows 8 tend to stop functioning correctly in Windows 8. There's no automatic update for them.

Thus, IMHO, a clean install is so much better and the lesser evil of the two. biggrin.gif

I'm on windows 8.1 now, started with 7. Upgraded the entire way.
Don't have a single issue, and will be upgrading to 10. thumb.gif

Clean install is the better way to do it

But I would just upgrade to windows 10 IMO, less hassle.
