4k is impossible without SLI, and 8k will require 4x the horsepower. Quad-SLI rigs couldn't do 8k at any more than 30Hz right now. 240Hz is realistically never going to happen.
"Impossible" is far too general statement. I can do 120 to 160 fps on a single 7870 on 10 megapixels (25% more than 4k). What I am not saying is that this is in a 10 years old game engine in DX 9c mode (Source engine, Lost coast benchmark, every slider as far as it goes, 7870 overclocked under water).
So it depends on the game and the settings. With binocular vision you do not not as high GFX settings as on 2D screen for immersion so IF 4k would be implemented in consumer version (which I do not believe to be likely bcos of bandwidth considerations) there sure would be some
games that could run at 4k with the needed (consistent) frame rate on it.
