[BlurBuster] Oculus Prototype Preview – 2560×1440 strobed OLED virtual relaity! - Page 10

Phone screens do not have the R&D slowdown of waiting for DisplayPort ratification. At least I assume they don't... so the Rift might be the first thing to get 4K120?

Going with two 1440p is the most they should do till we get another 2-3 GPU generations released.

Obviously.
Thats what they are "rumoring" this new version is being rendered at 1440p. Due to multi gpu causing latency issues at the moment. They are however working with downsampling.

The consumer version probably won't be around for quite some time anyways.
(they also stated at the CES interview they are working towards 4k and 8k but it's not happening RIGHT now in this version, they obviously have to get lower resolutions and optimization down first.)

4k RIFT is still obviously a few years off from being able to be reality, but it's not going to be anywhere near 10k $ like someone was previously moaning about.

Have they ? Prices .. as in plural ? there are oodles of Cheap readily available Smart phones with 4k screens and they are cheap and easy to source for a VR project within the relative constraints of a consumer VR unit ? In the US too not Asia ?

you said someone was living the past. just because something has been invented and displayed at a trade show, perhaps even released in ONE device doesn't mean that they are the norm by any stretch. Apart from being completely pointless @ 5" or even 7" given viewing distances.

but im glad they exist for oculus and VR's sake

wow you are really trying to put words into my mouth are you not....
Did I ever say that 4k phones are widely available? no i did not. I said 4k phones are already being MADE...

and yes prices as in plural you have to buy a 85" UHD tv that was just released to spend 10k$....
even 60" are in the 1-2k range, and when it comes down to monitors and 40inchers you looking more at the 400-1k range.

I'd personally perfer 4k 60hz over 1080/1440p 90-120hz. those higher frame rates give me motion sickness.

Rift specs = X
OCN posters expectation for specs = X+1

Its like an OCN law. Just like the first post in every news thread has to be "This isn't news."

I'd be more than happy with 1280*1440 per eye and 90hzStrobed for 300 euros. I wonder what their final models/specs/pricing will look like.

Pricing wise, they have stated that they want to keep it around the same level as the DK2, so around $350 / 300eur. They have also stated that they will be selling the headset as cheap as possible, so just above cost, and making money off the content.

The DK releases were roughly 350€ so not that far off. I'd guess this next one will probably still be in the 350-400€ range.

I haven't had the chance to try the new one, but the last version DKII that I did try out with 960 x 1080 per eye was not something I could game on.
It had pretty distinct jaggies, and had a sort of mesh look to the image especially when in movement.
From what I've heard this version is a bit more detailed and the who mesh look was alittle less noticeable.

I'm sure the new version is significantly better. 2560x1440 has a pixel size roughly half of 1080P.

I also remember hearing somewhere that Zuckerberg wanted the Oculus Rift sold at a loss, to try to get it in as many hands as possible right away.
