Suggestions on NAS

Thread Starter
Greetings.

I'm thinking on buying a NAS but a i dont know much about this topic(at least on the HW side... biggrin.gif ). It will be used in my home network so it needs to support a few things(CIFS, DLNA, printserver....), and im planning on running raid arrays so a 4 bay model would be good with a fanless design/very quiet fan since it will be in my room. My budget is about 400€ 500€, the HDD's(3,5) will be coming from my old NAS so i dont need new ones. What do you recommend for this purpose?

Thanks in advance for the help smile.gif .

Synology is pricey, but I hear very good reviews on them. I've never had one, but they seem to be the mainstream choice and good for someone who isn't well versed in the NAS ecosystem. Should be easy to set up, lots of guides and info online, and good tech support. Those are the benefits of going with a popular mainstream solution.

I have a Buffalo Linkstation. I didn't know hardly anything about NAS boxes and I found the Buffalo unit pretty easy to setup as well. I had one issue with it and called tech support. They walked be through it in five minutes and showed me what I was doing wrong. It has been rock solid.

I think qnap is the best. The interface, plugins and option on the nas is phenomenal.

Thanks for the tips. This two looks good:
https://www.synology.com/hu-hu/products/DS414#spec
http://www.qnap.com/i/en/product/model.php?II=99&event=2

The qnap is 20 euro cheaper than the synology. On the other hand the Synology has a dual core CPU and supports 6 TB disks... Based on this it seems the synology will win this round.
