I was using a mod that removes ambient lighting but sadly it had compatibility issues with something else I use. I did try CoT but I just didn't quite prefer its color palette. Even with mods like these that improve the lighting system, it's still not on the same level as the likes of CryEngine 3, Unreal Engine 4, or even Frostbite 3. But then again, even unmodded Skyrim's lighting system still looks fine by today's standards, as in not horribly dated.

I do use LOD mods but now that I upgraded my GPU I should probably try the more intensive view distance mods again.

At this point it seems very clear that you are struggling to find anything to criticize, just to do so. It is irrational.

Yeah everybody knows that Skyrim doesn't look photorealistic. You can criticize all you want, but modded Skyrim is still within the ten most realistic looking games. More importantly it is one of the best examples of "games looking more beautiful than reality" due to the amount of control people have over its visuals with mods. I'm sure all of the people who use those crazy ENBs feel that it looks more beautiful than reality.

But I have to say, when I think of games more beautiful reality, I don't think of graphics. I instead think of unique environments like Morrowind's, and the amount of artistic vision it took to create it. Now that's a beautiful game. Graphics mods help even more of course.

It doesn't have super "realistic" graphics, but it's graphics and atmosphere makes it absolutely gorgeous to look at and play. I'm simply mentioning this to go along with the point made above where some games have more "interesting" appearance than reality, but not necessarily more "realistic"

Hah, reasonable enough even if I disagree. To me, The Witcher 2 looks fairly normal except for the blinding levels of HDR and bloom. Similar to Crysis 3 actually. I don't think that's artistic vision but that's just my taste.

the best thing about games like Fallout is the atmosphere and exploration, the threat of death keeps it exciting but in reality it could of probably managed mostly without.

something weird about the oculus videos ive seen is that the sense of being in game physiologically changes the players perspective and killing feels a bit more real .. some wont be bothered but as graphics, animations and sound get better and VR gets unbelievably involving it might be a case of adventure and exploration or hunting games taking over from ultra mega kill gore FPS games.. for some wink.gif

I would sacrifice my soul for a next-gen fallout with oculus and mod support. But none of that noncanonic bull**** like fo3 was.

Games look good, but they still have a LONG way to go before they look more beautiful than reality. They particularly fall short on scale where a "mountain" turns out to only be a few hundred feet high and can be climbed in 3-5 minutes and the horizon is less than a mile away.

And yes, I took those pictures.

Implying any of this "looks good".

Matter of taste, I prefer industrial landscape way over nature. Deus Ex looked great for example. Reminds me of Moscow at night.

Could not agree more. What Morrowind lack in graphics, it more than makes up for in artistic creativity. The best story and gameplay of the series didn't hurt it either. Which is why Skywind is one of the things I'm most looking forward to.
The entire Elder Scrolls series have been great examples of immersion that transcends the graphical limits.
Even Oblivion from 2006 looks good, running on a graphics engine that even low end phones of today would laugh at.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Once again missing the point.

You are confusing pure resolution with beauty, which is like comparing apples to bricks.
No matter how much you shout about the "real" world, it will never be more than your opinion. I used to put food on the table with my camera, and even I understand that nothing that sensor captures will ever be inherently better or prettier than the art of a game. They are different things.

Definitely not limited to 512mb vram. I'm hitting nearly 5gb vram usage with mods.

Back OT, decent graphics and physics combined with good story make a very immersive game. I do look for graphics when I buy games because whats the point in having the hardware if your not using it to the max biggrin.gif

With better textures and light (and less specular :S) you can achieve this :
