How good is SLI? - Page 2

My GTX 480's were rock solid in SLI. Absolutely no stuttering and no weird driver issues. Everything worked really really well.

My Radeon 7950s were piles of poo in CF. They had weird color issues going on, didn't do multi-monitor and CF well, display-driver-crashed-and-recovered issues, wouldn't support resolution changes while in game, and just outright crashed Windows periodically. I have never regretted any technology purchase so much as those piles of crap.

Now I have a single GTX 970 which has been great, but I can't speak for multi-GPU in the Maxwell generation

I heard complaints from a friend who owned crossfire 7950s as well - he promptly sold them for a single 780 ti. I think that generation of AMD cards in crossfire were just a fail, but the new generation works much better thumb.gif

Same could be said for NVidia ^

I get a lot of the same as coachmark2 mentions with SLI, especially with these new ones, crashes blue screens, driver screw ups etc frown.gif

I have an xfx 7950 and power cooler 280 in xfire right now my brother in law just got 2 970s in sli. On my 1440p monitor all games ive played (SOM, far cry 4, DA: I) are smooth at very high settings. Ultra is different i get a lot of stutter on shadow of mordor. On AB my frame time is anywhere between 17ms and 120ms in ultra settings. On high im setting in 17ms to 34ms which is fine with me.

My brother in law has his setup running on a single 4k 30inch monitor and at ultra settings he gets stuttering too. he doesnt care because its smooth to him.

I think its just like that if your trying to play on a setting that is too high for your system to push.

BTW hope this isn't true but a lot of people are testing their 970s.

Would suck to find out that those 970's you all have are stuck at 3.5gb vram

Seems to be luck of the draw if you have issues or not going SLI or CF. Some do, other don't, basically need to try which sucks in this day n age of technology, but we still pre-order stuff and let it be for some unknown reason...
