Help on a new build from scratch

Thread Starter
So I've been asked my brother to build him a good gaming PC from scratch.

Here's what I'm thinking and looking for advice on a good mobo, CPU and storage HD up to scratch with the rest of rig:

GTX 970
8gb ram
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Corsair Carbide 540 case
EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2 Power Supply
250gb Samsung Evo 840

Thanks!

What`s your budget?
What resolution?
What programs do you use to work?
What games do you play?
Do you plan doing SLI/Crossfire?

4690k and a z97 board such as the hero, sabertooth, gaming 5/7, or msi of same quality, just depends on cpu/mobo budget

Right now he'll get a 1080p 144hz monitor but with plans in the future to SLI the 970 and perhaps get a 1440 144hz monitor when the prices of both come down a bit.

Whats a good budget for CPU and mobo, say £350 to £450?

He's not poor so restraining the budget is more about not being on the bleeding edge for no good reason. He'd rather upgrade every two years with a £1200 system than build a £4000 system and have it become old.

You may want to try grabbing an x99 board and a 5820k, for not too much more than a nice z97 i5/i7 system. That way he is not dead on the DDR3 era or haswell cpu line. he can upgrade a cpu later on the x99 platform most likely, not so much at all on the z97. Then grab 8gb of ddr4 and you can add to that later as-well when needed. As far as the HDD goes, I'd grab the biggest WD Black drive you can buy or need for mass storage then the ssd for boot and selected programs like you intended

The 970 HOFs are too sexy, and for 144hz, especially at 1440p, 2x would be beautiful.
I know I probably went a little off track, but basing the build scheme off the Galax 970s just seemed right to me.

@ p4inkill3r: OP said as of now 1 gpu, and he needs a monitor 1080p 144hz. Also I'd remove that cpu cooler, if he's not oc'ing, otherwise nice recommendations. I would slip this in myself.
