SSD configuration question for a new (high end) build - Need help!!!!

Thread Starter
I am about to order the SSD storage for a new build. Originally I planned on an XP941 512GB for a boot drive and a Samsung 850 Pro 1TB for applications/games.

I am a little uncomfortable with the vertical M.2 bracket ASUS has for the X99 Deluxe. I am thinking about a pair of 850 Pro's in RAID0 or even 4 850 Pro's in RAID10.

Then there is also a Mushkin Scorpion Deluxe (PCIe x8 SSD).

Any thoughts or consideration would be greatly appreciated. This is (obviously) an X99 build.

The system is for numerical/Monte Carlo modeling and optical design/ray trace work. I need a powerful CPU and lots of RAM (please no comments on the RAM - I need it). I also want to be able to play any game I want at high end setting in the evening (I work from home).

The basic build is below

i7 5960X (overclocked)
NZXT Kraken X61
ASUS X99 Deluxe
64GB G.Skill Ripjaws 4 2800 MHz
Samsung XP941 512GB boot (tentative)
Samsung 850 Pro 1TB applications/games (tentative)
2x WD Caviar Black 4TB - RAID1 (storage/backups)
2x GALAX GTX 980 HOF (SLI)
Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W
Thermaltake Core V51
3x Samsung S27D590C (displays)

Budget is $7,500 - 8,000 (notice I already have ~$1,200 for boot and application SSDs, so don't feel like you have to hold back on suggestions because of cost)

I order the SSDs on Tuesday.

Does this require SSDs for storage? If not, why would you RAID 0 SSDs? RAID 0 will not improve everyday use as it doesn't improve random speeds.

It would make more sense to me to RAID 10 your storage/backup drives, as mechanical failures are more likely with hard drives than with SSDs.

The SSDs would be for applications and games. Or they would be for OS, applications and games - depends on the configuration. It would be nice to have everything load as quickly as possible. Given what I am spending for the system overall, this a feature I really want (even if I don't need it).

I have a pair of WD Caviar Black 4TB HDDs in RAID1 for data/files/backup. I'm not so concerned about speed there.

Raid0 will not really help to speed things up since random read/writes are the most important part here. And raid0 will not increase them.

You should take 2 Samsung 850 pro drives. One for Games and one for Software.
Or 4x 850 pro for raid10 but I doubt it would give you a big advantage.

However with 2 ssds you could spend the savings on a good backup nas. (If not already done)
