Dual loops from a Single Res.

Hey guys, I have a questions for all you out there. I've tried looking around and cant seem to get a straight answer on this, so lets have a discussion.

Say I have 1 large reservoir, and I want to run 2 loops out of it. I

Is it possible????

First, a couple things about the loops. 1 loop is going to be a true "loop". It will go

Res --> Pump --> GPUs --> CPU --> Rad --> RES.

The other will be a bit different.

Res --> Pump --> Rad --> Rad --> Rad --> Res.


Both of these loops will be feeding from the same reservoir and dumping back into it. I don't HAVE to run 2 loops, but i though it might provide some better cooling and keep the loop with the components simplier.

I could run all these in 1 loop, with 2 pumps, and be done with it, but wanted to get everyones opinons on it.

Thoughts?

i would go 1 loop. you won't see any changes in water temps with two loops and one res as the water feeding the pumps will be the same temp after returning to the res.

Just run a single loop with dual pumps. Since the two separate loops would be using the same res, the coolant temp would equalize between the two loops.

I'm not worried as much about the coolant temps as I am about making the loop look clean on the main side I guess. I know that the water will delta to a temp between the 2 loops, but Just trying to be as tidy as possible.

It's not going to be tidier, with additional wires/controller/pump mount, AND it will yield the same results as singleloop system. Literally no point in the proposition. Of course, if it fits your aesthetic tastes, go for it. You should not encounter any bigger problems.

It will be tidier, consider the 2nd loop is in a separate compartment. I guess I should have mentioned that .

I think if you share a res between two loops you are really only running 1 loop with a pump on each individual "run" if that makes sense?

If you think it will be tidier then go for it, you lose redundancy if a pump should fail, but really who wants a loop that has a failed pump that could go undetected.

Yeah, well, as said, the only thing that matters in this case is your taste and vision. I see no additional technical difficultuies arising from the proposed layout.

There could possibly be some crazy turbulence in your res, but I think that will obviously depend largely on the res itself. I wouldn't see different flow rates or head pressures causing too many issues.

How do you think putting the in and outputs of the loops on the res? From what you say i only can think that the res will be in the middle of both loops and on each side you will have a input and output, you may see some vortex on the water if you have two different flows on the same space of water, and you want to avoid any vortex possible since will mess with the air filtering and rise the res temperature.

I think it will be better if you make yourself a big res with two chambers inside, each chamber having a output from one loop toe the input from the other one. This will make the flow of the reservoir really straightforward.
