question about small form factor pc use

I currently have a laptop that I hook up to my TV when I have the urge to game on the big screen but its a pain. Having to keep plugging and unplugging it. So I was wondering about getting something really small like a nuc that could probably run pcsx2 and steam stream off of it for my more demanding games. But then I saw the price of them being 500$ without aHDD and ram.. Is there a cheaper alternative that could be used .
Can a raspberry pi run windows and could that work

Are you specifically referring to steam streaming?
Also is there any size limitations on a computer that could potentially be built to just be connected to the TV 24/7?

Yeah my main use for it would be to in home stream my games .
As for size I want to keep it as small as possible. And atleast capable of emulating Which is why gigabytes nuc came to mind because they're more than capable due to Intel iris and gtx 760 graphics for emulation but come with a big price
tag

I could try to go mitx but last I checked some motherboards were just overpriced but I think I was looking at z mobos

With a pentium G3258 processor some of the H and B motherboards from asus are able to overclock it if you want that as an option. I am looking to see how cheap of a parts list i can get right now, but i have a feeling someone will come by and ninja me as that usually happens smile.gif.

Yeah I just made a list on pcpicker. And got one around 312 using a g3258 but that's without a GPU and a cooler

With intel quicksync you should not need a gpu if you are streaming from another computer from what i have heard.

Care to link your list?

Dang I was writing up a big thing about how an Nvidia Shield Portable would be perfect for your needs, along with being an amazing portable system, then I saw that you had a 280X lol. It would still a great emulation machine, I play lots of N64 games and have tried some Dreamcast games and they work flawlessly on it, as well as streaming my steam games from my computer via game cast from my 660TI, not to mention all the free grid games I can play streaming from the cloud (Can't on my apartments internet, it requires a good connection and I have crappy DSL) I. I don't there there's a ps2 android emulator yet though, don't know if the hardware can handle it, but Nvidia's new TegraX1 sounds like it could easily support it and it quite possibly could show up in the Shield portable 2 if such a thing is released.

Yeah I'm on the waiting list for a 970 price drop lol

I do think the nvidia TV thing will be a great option once it becomes final. Its capable of streaming and emulation given the android apps are good

Care to post the list you have come up with for the computer? We maybe able to work off of it according to your preferences.

I was thinking of going with a 256gb mx100 instead of an HDD
