Great for you... move to linux please. get the hell out of my OS. You're toxic.

Look in the mirror dude. You're the one throwing a temper tantrum over an operating system. Anyways, it's not really blind faith if Windows 7 works without issue. So maybe instead of raging over this you could relax and realize it's different floats for different boats.

LOL, religion, seriously? Seems you don't understand that either if your comparing it with using windows 7.

All this hatred coming from you simply because I dislike Windows 8? And who said I loved Windows 7 anyways, I sure didn't.

Now you're saying unusable. That's vastly different from non-functional. And the majority of people didn't even give Windows 8 a proper try. Most just went into it with the prejudices they picked up from the media, going into it thinking they will hate it... well, what did you think the outcome would be? If you go into something trying to hate it, of course you're going to find flaws and hate it.

hm i used windows 8 close to when it was first launched and i didnt find it that much different than 8.1, 8.1 is better but i dont think it was a big drastic change to how the OS works.

And i think its perfectly normal for people to freak out over windows 8 since they changed how you interact with the OS by a pretty good margin and that can be confusing at first.

If its not broken why fix it

If we don't try new things with the possibility of goofing up, how would we advance?

Back when Windows 8 came out, I decided to do a little experiment. I asked members of my family to boot up the computer and do basic tasks such as send an email, open a word document, open photoshop, set up a new user account, and shut down.

My brother in law (who is also tech savvy) had no real trouble. Both my parents and my in-laws (who are all about average on their tech knowledge) were unable to do those things without help. My other siblings were able to do some (e.g. send an email) but not others (new user account, shut down).

Unusable was probably hyperbole, but Windows 8 as it launched was utter crap because its design was utter crap for a desktop. Nothing about its design was simple, easy, or intuitive for desktop use. Just because it was popular to hate on Windows 8 doesn't mean that the hate wasn't justified.

And to be blunt, Windows 8 adds nothing to justify its price as an upgrade from Windows 7 for basically 90% of the Windows user base.

That's true, I already said that at full retail I wouldn't bite, especially on a gaming rig. However, the idea that the entire operating system is bad because you refuse to install a different start menu is ridiculous. By that rationale, Linux is a bad OS, since every single interface and the customization thereof is "third party" and chosen by the user.

The reason people are saying it sounds like religion is the unreasonable level of hatred towards an OS, and calling people that use the OS "apologists". To see that in what should be an objective and technically savvy tech forum is really disappointing. We talk about how to modify things on these forums all the time from stock to better suit us, but for some reason when we talk about replacing a start menu (just a start menu!) on a version of Windows it's the absolute worst thing ever. Tell me, how many of you using Windows 7 installed a third party app to add a taskbar to secondary monitors?

Everything else for day to day can be done in Mint for me.

Whenever I decide to move on from win7 it will be to a Linux distro. Every game I play works on it so it's all good.

How about this...

If Microsoft is going to force me to use and pay for a new OS then make one that I can use without a learning curve and here's a novel idea, MAKE IT WORK! How a bout a version of windows that doesn't fall apart after 3 or 4 software install/uninstalls because the registry gets cluttered up.

Tut tut, you're becoming hysterical. 8.1 works perfectly fine. Haven't had any windows fall apart in a very long time.
