Hello guys. My very first post here.

I have that cpu + mb combo and im trying to OC it. I have everything on my bios set as other people have set theirs and im getting really bad temps. I only have it set at 4.3mhz and my core goes up to 57+ ( i stop prime95 when it hits that high. )

I have a swiftech220x cooler. I even put a fan blowing towards the vrm heatsink. Pls help!!

Well it obviously didn't work out for you. Every board, and especially every cpu is different. Not to mention all the variables like ram, cpu cooling, case cooling, ambient temps etc.... An overclock can't be done by copy and paste. Even if someone had the EXACT same rig there is a really, really, really good chance the bios settings would not work for you. It is not nearly that easy. The advice that was given to read the guide is how everyone here learned. Take your time and do it right and it will be rewarding and fun.

What is default? "Auto" is the default setting and that could be anything. So why don't you look at CPU-Z and tell us what your voltage is under load. The only reasons you're having high temps are going to be..

A) high voltage
B) bad mount on CPU cooler
C) pump not working

Most likely A.. since you seem to not know what your voltage is. Default is not an answer..

It'd help if you show us screenshots of HWiNFO64 while you run a stress test. Particularly what it says about vcore and temps.

Also be aware that the settings under Digi+ Power Control (notably Load Line Calibration) WILL affect your vcore under load. In how far, you will find out by looking at vcore while running a stress test.

about 2 min into Prime95, my socket temp goes up to about 65,66,67 (core @ 52).. so i have to shut it down coz from what I understand, max core temp for this CPU is 70celcius..

Im am sure my cpu block is sitting on my cpu properly with thermalpaste... and i think my pump is working.. otherwise my temp would be a LOT higher...

Suggestions , anyone?!

Ambient i say about 23celcius..
Vcore jumps between 1.3-1.34
I used the line method to apply the thermal paste that came with the h220x

System idles at about 18celcius.. but it gets really hot when running prime95.

i lowered the speed to 4.3mhz but im still getting about 54degrees on core and about 68degrees on the socket.. Which is I think i a bit too high with my cooler right??

I also tried to decrease the Vcore to about 1.28v.. but temps were still going up and up.

What else could be causing this....

There's definitely something wrong. Try reseating your cooler block.

54C core is fine but your temps should be lower given the type of cooler you have, ambient temps, and the voltage that is running through the chip. Don't worry about socket temp.

I would try reseating the cooler. Try the "X" method this time. I seem to have best results with this method.

AS5 is not the be-all/end-all of paste. What are you using now?

The fan over the VRMs will help once you get your current issues in hand and move on to stabilizing your overclock, as will putting one on the back of the motherboard to cool the socket.

That's good stuff. You should be fine with whatever you use as long as its not chocolate.

unless you have enough fans to push an appropriate intake on your case, I'd stick with your actual situation.

for example, with my carbide 500R every fan runs as an intake (200 mm side, 140 mm back, 2x120mm front, while two SP120 push air out to the radiator.

This is of course an example, but it all depends on the amount of airflow your case has.

I would flip it so the fans are set to exhaust the hot air out the top. push or pull won't make much if any of a difference. Though if you run 4 fans in a push+pull setup, that will slightly help cooling. Set your rear case fan as intake as well. That way you are feeding cool air directly over the VRM's and to the top rad.
