Which way to go?

Currently I'm running a wind force 290.

I'm debating going up to a 980 GT and I'm curious if it's worth it?

Should I just upgrade my PSU and go to a 290 and a 290x? My Mobo is pretty dated and is a z87 model with a 2500k.

Any thoughts?

stay with what you got, a gtx 980 is not much of a upgrade from a r9 290

it's worth it if you want to be able to add another card without a psu upgrade. then again for the equivalent cost of a 980, never mind an eventual other one, you could buy a really overpriced psu and a 290X.

I question your rig though. How do you say your mobo is pretty old when its last gen only? unless you mean Z77*... on top of that,i question the mobo and cpu because that mobo (i have) is LGA socket 1150 and the i5 2500k is LGA socket 1155 (Z77). So are u sure your specs are correct?

Imo, not worth it. You have a very capable gpu.

You're in an interesting spot OP. Sure, there's better CPU's and GPU's out there, but the money spent to upgrade may not justify its self. The 290 is solid. Adding another brings its own new set of possible issues too. Yet the 980 would be the only single card to "upgrade" to and that would be a waste of money I think.

Yeah I want to upgrade because of some issues but I'm pretty sure just waiting is the best at this point.

What issues?

I'd put that money towards watercooling, a new case, or a monitor - but I'd solve the issues first.
