There have been plenty of 970 sli vs 980 topics brought up but with the onset of both the gtx 970 FTW+ and the 980 classified kingpin from ces I'm wondering what everyone thinks I should go with? Right now I have gigabyte 970s in sli and although they're great, I'm a massive evga fanboy and I'll feel more comfortable with that.

I seriously can't make up my mind though because sli is obviously more power and a better bang for your buck, but I'm honestly fed up with sli issues lately (dragon age inquisition issues, no support for some games, problems with dsr and mfaa... Etc)

I figured I'd just make a poll.

Thanks!

It's not worth it. If you are having troubles with certain games in SLI config, then just run without SLI for that game. A 980 isn't going to improve upon it much.

Then, the games that do work fine with SLI use SLI for way better FPS.

Are you a big time bencher, using at least super-overkill custom water cooling?

If not, the Kingpin cards offer you no benefit.

Yeah. All the more reason why you should keep dual 970's in SLI.

A single 980 is not much better than a 970 and a 980 will not max most games 1440p 144hz. Also as mentioned above, the Kingpin cards have a big premium on them for some of the beaching features they offer. Not worth it unless you're gonna make use of it.

If you want less FPS by all means go for it. The only positive I see is a small gain in games that you have been having problems in with SLI. (single card vs single card).

Some peoples rule of thumb is to purchase the most powerful single card that you can afford, so you can avoid the issues of multi card setups.

I must say while at times support is slow nVidia is pretty quick getting SLI profiles out on the big name games and even the lower end ones. Honestly I haven't had issues that much and even if the game doesn't support SLI just disabling the feature and enjoying the game till the new driver update appears. And its been working out just fine for me.

Anyways if you already have a 970 in SLI you're already in great position and I wouldn't move make the move, but sounds like you have company favoritism and if you want to make that move go ahead.

Wow... Thanks for the responses. I figured I should stick with 970 sli... I just figured the "1 beast card" methodology might work, but yeah the 970 is really not far off the 980...that's why I sli'd that in the first place
