Hey... you're the pro on this aren't you?

What's the main performance advantage of Xfired 290's over SLI 970's? I imagine the 290 has an advantage right?

I just know scaling on the 290's is very good. From what I have heard its better than the 970's scaling. (I could be wrong on this)

Main issue is the second 290 is about $250-$260 ish compared to $360 ish for another G1

The other thing I really like is no SLI or (Crossfire) bridges on the 290's. I used to have 2 290's on this machine. One died due to an overclocking incident I believe... but until then Crossfire on those 290's was quite impressive.
Never understood the hate for the bridges, what's so bad about them?

Another $100 is definitely pause for thought.

So I wouldn't hesitate to go back to it especially when it is cheaper. That's just my position. Not that it matters.
Oh crap... don't start that... LOL
He can go be insecure in his corner.

Coming off as really insecure man lol.

He's just messing with you man. He's probably bored. Like me right now.thumb.gif

edit: IDK bridges are just personal preference of course. But once I had a card without them, I never want to see one again. They just clutter things up IMO. Everyone's entitled to their own OP, so if you like them its all good. I just don't like the way they look in my case or on my cards. Plus, I just don't want to mess with them breaking, going bad, etc. Just one more thing to deal with you know?

I only recognize his post because I've seen him do this a few other times. Seems less like a joke and more insecurity.

I think its something I'd have to experience to really understand. Why is it even necessary?

the higher bandwidth

The same happened with other midrange on kepler.

What about that GM200 being a "+50% everything" 200W GTX 980?

I'll tell you one thing... I got flamed on one certain thread (for posting facts about my rig that some certain people didn't want to believe) and he was one of the few that backed me up. He's a good guy in my view. We're all friends here. thumb.gif

Any idea what the real world perf difference is between SLI 970 and Xfire 290 for 4k though? My bet is the 290's would beat them...

How is the 980 a 200w card? Maybe at stock clocks? Overclock the thing and see what happens. My 290 pulls only about 40w more than my 970 both OC'd.

I better shut up. I don't want to start a war here... Might enlist the AMD haters...

Nothing coming out in the near future is going to be "+50%" over the 980. It's ridiculous!

Nice. +1

From what that says there's very little difference between the 970 and the 290/290x in crossfire. Looks like it does beat the 290 Xfire by a little bit... But not much... less power I guess if someone cares. Which I don't. And a lot less expensive for me.

... and why didn't they use Mantle in BF4? That would have change those FPS results by a decent margin. I notice pretty large gains in Mantle compared to DX11 on BF4.
