Motherboards and RAM speed

Thread Starter
I have just found out that on some boards, a 2400mhz memory will only run at 1333\1600mhz unless you OC it, and motherboards and CPUs restrict ram speed.
Can someone explain in short what does it mean, if I purchase 2400mhz ram sticks how can I make sure they will actually run at 2400mhz?

It is for ALL motherboards.

RAM can only boot up at standard values of DDR3-1333/1600 with AUTO settings.

This allows almost any RAM to be used in any motherboard.

Now in order to reach a high speed, it is necessary to enable the XMP/DOCP profile, or manually input DRAM settings in BIOS. For extreme frequencies like DDR3-2400, a compatible motherboard and capable CPU is necessary. If they are, you should have no problems.
